750ml brown bottle with no freshness date though there is a suggestion of cellaring this beer for no more than 2 years.

Look: Perfectly clear pale golden color, amazing display of froth and lace

Smell: Asian pear, fresh baked pita bread, dragon fruit, slightly earthy, nutty yeast, herbal, peppery phenols, very aromatic

Taste: Dry malt backbone, smooth, slight juiciness, chalky yeast, grapenuts, spicy, crackers, hay, light pepperiness, very dry finish

So flavorful with out being over the top, truly a well honed Saison that seriously rivals many of the originals from Belgium & France.

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy straw gold with a monstrous pillowy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is grains, some banana and clove, a little fruit, bubblegum and yeast with some floral hops.

The flavor is slightly sweet cereal malts, earthy yeasts, spices and pepper and some dry bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with spritzy carbonation.

Overall, a very solid saison.

Large bottle purchased at the source last week, lovingly transported and allowed to settle and rest in the fridge for several days.

Pours clouded dull orange, under a frothy eggshell marainge head that lasts and lasts. Then leaves gobs of thicker lace all over the glass. Quality look to this one.

Orange, pepper, melon and yeasty goodness on the nose.

More of the same on the palate, with the melon and pepper coming through. Dry finish, with oranges coming to mind.

Seriously delicious, highly complex, I enjoyed and savored every drop.

Please consider distribution to NYC area!

Glad to have been able to visit the brewery/tasting room and glad I was smart enough to bring a few bottles home....

Thanks, quirkzoo!

Incredibly cloudy yellow with a huge, tightly-bubbled white head that lasts and lasts and lasts. This leaves ribbons, sheets, spiderwebs, and spots of lace all the way down the glass. Gorgeous.

A complete aroma and very typical of the style: grain and sweet breads, white fruits (green apple and some peach, perhaps), distinct, slightly funky yeast, and some mild pepper. Very nice.

The flavor too is fantastic: the yeast and white fruit flavors are front and center, but a mild funk and earthiness complement everything nicely.

Medium bodied with high carbonation. A joy.

Poured a gorgeous semi-cloudy yellow with two fingers of gorgeous white head and ample bubbles sticking to the side of the glass. Quite beautiful to look at. Scents of apricot, barnyard funk, slight pear, faint sour notes and undertones of bubblegum. A very pleasing aroma, hits all the classic saison notes perfectly. Taste begins with Belgian barnyard funk, slight pear, some faint hints of bubblegum, slight hints of apricot pit, sour wild yeast notes, which are very faint but come through a bit stronger on the finish and become more prominent as the beer warms, some slight straw, very faint peach, slight grassiness and a bit of slight grain on the rather dry finish. A deceptively complex flavor profile that changes as the beer warms, opening up new flavors, but never becoming too much. It retains an easy drinkability and is amazingly refreshing. Mouthfeel is light bodied, with moderate carbonation, aiding the ease with which you can drink this beer. Overall its an excellent saison, one of, if not the best that I have tasted. It hits all the perfect notes and is a complex, refreshing, joyous experience.

750 ml capped bottle. Lots of information on the label but missing the most important part - bottled date! Otherwise a nice package with ingredients listed, serving and cellaring suggestions, and website leading to food pairings.

Poured into a goblet, it immediately creates a huge towering head. The knife trick has never been more appropriate. Hazy golden orange color with thick lacy head.

Aroma is funky with a nice yeast character as a saison should have.

The flavor is spicy and floral in equal measure. A good amount of lemon and black pepper without being over the top. Lots of character and not lacking in taste. Not as subtle as the Belgian or French varieties but still enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is medium-light in body and well (maybe too well) carbonated. Alcohol is low at 6.8% and isn't all that noticeable on the tongue.

Overall a fine saison. I had my reservations about a small upstart brewery brewing nothing but saisons but I think Funkwerks might be on to something. Hopefully they won't be too 1-dimensional.
