Served on-draught into a stem-goblet at Funkwerks, on 12/26/12. Cost was $4.50. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a two finger head of white colour, slight cream, pretty decent thickness, and good retention. Body is a pale hazy dull copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Peppermint, pale malts, and more pale malts. A simple yet intriguing aroma. I'm excited to try it. Average in strength.

T: Peppermint and pale malts, with hints of funkiness. Certainly unique; the spearmint is fresh and enjoyable. A bit tooth paste-esque, to its detriment. Tea-like, but short of astringent. The mint overwhelms the balance. Fantome this is not. It's also somewhat simple for the style. Lacks the yeasty goodness or milky peppery character I'd expect in a great saison. I like the experimentation, but it comes off a bit average.

Mf: Just shy of astringent. Smooth, wet, and fresh. Good carbonation and thickness.

Dr: I like a good peppery saison. This is not that. The artificial toothpaste mint character downright bothers me. Decently brews, but it really doesn't do it for my specific tastes. The near astringency is also a severe flaw. It's drinkable, though. And it's a good idea for a winter saison.
