750 ml bottle, bottled on 11/6/2013. Pours slightly hazy straw gold with a huge fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is tropical fruits and some dry vinous grape with some earthy yeast and perfumey malt.

The flavor is bready malts with tropical fruits, a little spicy funk and some grape. The finish has a decent amount of dry bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with slightly sharp carbonation.

Overall, a very nice beer. I like tropical fruit from the nelson sauvin hops and what the grape must adds.

Poured a cloudy, very pale straw colored body with a one finger fluffy white head. The cloudiness was due to yeast stirring in the keg so it's not fair to rate that aspect, but the head is nicely formed and overall it looks pleasing. Scents of citrus, especially lemon peel and juice, white pepper, light sulphur and yeasty aromas, a bit musky and some medium-light sour funk. Overall impression of aroma is of an amazing saison aroma, very true to the core form of the style. A bit yeasty due to being the first pour, but not bad, the core aroma shines through regardless. Flavor begins like a classic saison with notes of lemon zest, sour funk, clove and white pepper. Middle continues this flavor, with a pleasant sourness, lemon zest, light lemon flesh and white pepper flavor. Finish is medium-dry with notes of spicy Belgian yeast, white pepper, lemon zest and light lemon juice with a bit of sour yeasty funk. Aftertaste is funky yeast, light grainy malt, white pepper and lemon zest. Overall impression of flavor is of a lovely saison, very true to form and quite pleasant. A joy to taste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with high carbonation and an initially creamy feel that gives way to a drying finish. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of an excellent saison, a bit full but very pleasing on the tongue. Overall this is a fantastic saison. The slightly off aroma gave way to a wonderful flavor and mouthfeel that was well worth trying. Another hit from Funkwerks.

Tap room exclusive bottle - in the experimental series.

A: Pours a straw colored, hazy body. Huge fizzy head bustles up and pillow tops at the top of the glass. Took about 10 minutes to pour the entire 750 bottle into 2 glasses, because so much head rushed up with little pours every 3-4 minutes.

S: Yeasty and a bit of funk in the nose. Some peppery spice. The grape must is definitely present and a bit of orange and peach.

T: Upfront there is an apple taste. Also some peach on the palate that follows the nose. A bit of banana. Strong white grape juice. Finishes with a solid undertone of black pepper spiciness and funky farmhouse yeast. Very complex and solid.

M: Not nearly as dry as the nose would lead you to believe. Light body. Very crisp and refreshing. Smooth.

O: Wow. This one really caught me off guard. My favorite funkwerks offering to date. Just glad I was fortunate enough to be able to try a bottle. The complexity is incredible.

Poured on-tap at the brewery and served in a tulip, the beer is a hazy, bright gold coloring with a foamy, sparse, white head. Nose of straight booze, tart citrus notes, herbal spices, and toast. Flavors are tart forward, with a lemony and sweet crème undertone. Light and crisp body, with a blast of herbal notes on the aftertaste. Spiced, smooth finish. Nice.

750ml bottle. Decanted into a stemmed tulip glass. Bottles notes the date “03-25-13”.
Appearance: Golden and hazy like a sunrise in Los Angeles. Crowned with a fluffy pillow of fat bubbles that sinks away rather quickly. The head remains as a ring around the edge that paints beautiful lace all down the inner edge of the glass.
Smell: Apple cider, white wine, astringent tea, and pineapple.
Taste: The apple cider and white wine show up first and foremost in the flavor. Hints of papaya, pineapple, and grains of paradise. The alcohol doesn’t scream out at me, but it’s in the background somewhere whispering my name.
Mouthfeel: Bubbly and light in the body. A bit of warmth from the alcohol.
Overall: This beer is brilliant and a perfect end to a lovely day. I could drink approximately one pile of it.

A new taproom exclusive bottle; a light saison with nelson sauvin hops and grape muste.

Pours a hazy sandy yellow with a nice soft looking white head. Aroma is quite smooth and offers some spicey belgian yeast, grape juice, and some tropical fruits (particularly peach) that come out more as it warms. Flavor is more poignant and sharp than the aroma would have had me expect, in a good way. Juicy grape juice, tropical fruits hit first, the spicey belgian yeast follows underneath that, and it closes out with slightly fruity and bready finish. A crisp, active mouthfeel. Overall, this is a great beer. Funkwerks delivers again.
