750 ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy yellow gold with a big meringue like white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is wheaty malts with some lemon peel and some earthy yeast and a little soapiness.

The flavor is sweet fruity wheat malts with a slight tart twang at the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall, a nice soft fruity wheat with some tart sourness. A nice lighter beer, but a bit pricey to buy much of.

750ml bottle, split

I don't think this is properly classified as a berliner, despite claiming to be inspired by the style. I think the 'belgian-style ale' printed on the front of the label is more accurate of a descriptor.

So with that said, this isn't really anything like a berliner. Not overly tart - flavor profile dominated by lemon peel, coriander, belgian yeast, grass. Earthy and tasty, but a bit forgettable when put up against the rest of the funkwerks portfolio

A - Pale yellow fairly opaque in a large wine glass. There's not much foam or head retention. An attractive beer. It looks like a Berliner Weisse.

S - Clove phenolics, peppery with classic wheat grain aroma.

T - This beer is coming off as more of a Belgian white beer, but that's fine great style. Taste follows aroma, phenolic clove, spicy with some tangy citrus, but not sour.

M -Medium light body

O - A very worthwhile experience. Again not so much to Berliner Weisse style, but a great white wheat.

Poured from a 750 to duvel tulip.
Hazy straw color, two fingers of snowy whhite head, tight small bubbles. Nose has some wheat, malt, spicy yeast, hint (almost imperceptable) of tart. Tastes like a well done wit bier. Wheat and malt working well, a bit a citrus zest, not getting the lacto as much as I would like. Well carbonated and dry as a bone, easy to drink. Overall, I went into this beer expecting more berlinner and less wit, unfortunately the lacto didn't come through and left me wanting somethiing with a bit more bite. It is a refreshing beer that I will buy more of, just not when I want a berlinner weiss.

The label says this is "inspired by the sessionable German Berliner Weisse," but also that it's a "Belgian-Style Ale." Whatever category, this is really is an excellent sudsy light-bodied brew. The slightly tart sensation is just right and the spritzy mouthfeel is perfect and spews suds to the last pour.

Flavor is like a lighter Saison with a dose of Hefeweizen-style fruity and sweet-tinged flavor. Not much aroma. The warm, toasted malt is a delightful start to each sip, but the slightly tart taste makes is thoroughly refreshing. Plus you want another gulp. It's a little woody. Just what a Farmhouse style of beer should be.

Overall this is a tremendously drinkable beer and I am delighted to read that Funkwerks is experimenting with lighter and less alcoholic grews. This one is really worth a try, even at twelve bucks. From the 500 ml bottle purchased at Grapevine Wine & Liquors in Denver.
