Been here a few times since moving to the Big Island, and for the Hilo Side of the island, it is BY FAR the best beer bar. only two or three of their taps are crap, but from what they advertise, not much in the way of bottles of craft. they do an awesome job of supporting local beer also, always with multiple offerings from Mehana/Hawai'nui. the staff is usually very friendly, not super knowledgeable about beer, but most are working hard to learn more, and happy to talk beer with you, and for me personally talking with someone about the beer your jotting your notes down in is always helps. the Bartenders also Never let your cup go empty with out noticing.
the place is dim, a good thing down here. nice wooden bar and the woodwork and mirror behind the bar is gorgeous, donated by someone. the booths are nice also, but the regular tables are a bit cafeteria like. food is rather good, but not too cheap, though they do have the student deal, which I believe is a sandwich and a beer for $6.00. all in all, the best, and more importantly the ONLY beer bar of any kind on the island other than Humpy's Kona, and that's as far away as possible for the land mass the two bars are on.

(Visited 12/2010): Visited Hilo Burger during a stop on the big island on our cruise vacation. It is located in Hilo near the state park on Kilauea. Street parking is pretty accessible in the area.
The interior is laid out with the bar on the left side and table seating on the right. We sat at a booth at a window looking out at the street, mostly because the place was pretty dimly lit for lunch. The bar boasts an ornate mirror and the beer list is located on the far back wall. There is also a stage.
Hilo's advertising boasted 21 taps but in reality there are only about 6, and only a couple of those are craft beers, Hawai'i Nui and Long Hammer. The twelve or so bottled options are pretty much all macros. Not sure if they are deliberately getting away from microbrews or if we just visited at a bad time but either way the selection is a letdown.
Service however was courteous and efficient on a slow weekday lunch. There honestly was not much to talk about beer-wise but outside of that we were treated well.
Hilo Burger does have good burgers though. Both of our burgers were cooked correctly and had flavorful toppings.
Overall I would not recommend this place solely on beer. However if you want a decent burger and are happy with maybe one or two craft beer options it is worth checking out.
