EDIT: In my initial review of this establishment i had stated that the tap lines were not cleaned regularly, after a recent talk with one of the owners i have come to find that the bar is extremely diligent in cleaning their lines (once every three weeks). i fear i may have been too quick to attribute a bad beer to bad maintenance and not simply it just being a bad beer

ok, so when i was new to the craft beer scene this was my place to go, nothing has changed with the bar just with my palate and understanding of beer. the bar has a ton of beer on tap which is awesome. really diverse selection which is constantly rotating. they have an awesome mug club with 22 oz mugs for the price of a pint with the 60 buck one time fee, best mug club ive seen so far. the bar has four floors, all different themes and a rooftop which is incredible in the summer. so everything sounds perfect so far right? right. but then you realize that they veryyyy veryyy rarely clean their tap line, have a minimal bottle list and their prices are extremely high and getting higher (im talking $7 for a blue moon which is incredibly high around here). the service is pretty good and the brothers that own the place are good guys who are knowledgeable and friendly, i think they just get caught up in the bottom line which kills their quality for me atleast. the wood is awesome. Wanda, the cook, is the coolest little old lady in the world and makes a mean sandwich and bar pizza. i try so hard to love this place but the quality aspect and the pirce are really beginning to drive me away

First and Second time here back to back nights (winter)
Bar has several floors but only the first was open.

Very laid back atmosphere with very nice bartenders who knew a fair amount about the beers they were serving. There were 68 taps so its understandable that the owner would talk over the bartender who was serving me when she did not have a great handle on how to describe the beer.

The beers were all fresh tasting (Even the Hopslam that was the end of the keg). The food was decent. Just pub food, I had a burger and split wings and a casadillia with a co-worker the second night. Price was reasonable for the food.

If I lived in Saratoga this would be a regular stop for me.

Hi All,
I read the reviews from others. I do not totally agree with them. I guess we all have opinions and here are mine.
Atmosphere = low key, laid back
Quality = pretty good for a pub
Service = I have been at the bar all the times I have been there (about 15) and the service is good to very good.
Selection = I am pretty sure there are 62 beers on tap. I am an IPA lover and they had a least 6 IPAs that were worthy of drinking. My wife is a cider drinker and there were about 3 ciders on tap that were pretty good.
Food = pub food - fairly good - I liked the chicken quesadilla's of-course with hot sauce.
Value - Pretty good

Other than the Parting Glass, this is really the only other spot in downtown Saratoga springs that has a decent selection of craft beers available on draught. The other beer bar- the Local is not right in the heart of downtown.

The City tavern is a big place with about 4 floors and a roof deck and it is really right in the heart of the action on Caroline street. It has had a number of different names over the years as well but has been the City Tavern now for (IIRC) almost 3 years.

When I was there about a month ago, they had Southern Tier, Troegs, Brooklyn, Sierra Nevada, Long Trail, Lake Placid UBU, and maybe a few other craft options. This was a huge improvement from what I had remembered about this place from a year or so before.

One word of warning is that this place being in the heart of it all can absolutely get packed with people especially during the Summer racing season but it does seem to turn the crowds over with some regularity, so you could be packed in like sardines one minute and then a few minutes later--plenty of available seating. Sometimes a little patience goes a long way.

The service has always been decent and quick enough but nothing that would really stand out as being much better than average.

I always make the City tavern a part of my Saratoga bar hopping and now with a better than average beer selection, I will be hitting it as often as anywhere else in town.
