Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: MacQ32 on 10-12-2013

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

The “Old Time” series is a collaboration with The Charleston Beer Exchange. The base beer (a Belgian-style strong dark ale) for all four Old Times was originally brewed in July 2011, then aged in a variety of oak barrels, some with and some without a blend of brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus.

Rummy Old Time was aged for 18 months in four 15-gallon Pritchard’s rum barrels without any wild yeast/brewing bacteria. It is the rarest of the series with only 18 cases produced!

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Brown amber body. Decent khaki head. Medium collar.

Smell - Rum. Vanilla. Fruity and a little yeasty. Apple fruitiness.

Taste - Tons of rum. Apple fruits. Brown sugar. Oaky.

Mouthfeel - Heavy and boozy from the rum. Medium carbonation.

Overall - I like that this isn't soured. The others were just too much. This s boozy as hell, though. (392 characters)

8oz pour on draft at the Brewery

A: very dark brown almost black with some purplish hues when held to light. 1/2 fingers width of light tan head that dissipates almost immediately and leaves no lacing but some alcohol legs

S: licorice, dark fruits, tons of rum aromas, toffee; smells like an old ale more than anything Belgian but that doesn't take away from the fact that the aroma is fantastic

T: darks fruits, malty, chocolate, rum, lots of sweetness. The rum presence is huge, maybe even a bit too much for me but I'm not a big rum fan. A bit of booze adds nicely to the profile.

M/D: Full bodied, chewy, low carbonation. ABV is noticeable but not hot at all. Drinkability is very good.

O: Overall, wow, what a beer. Fantastic. (740 characters)

Butterscotch, vanilla, toffee pudding, brown sugar and caramel. Bit of oak in the taste, dark fruits. the booze cuts through the sweetness to balance it out. Like a very decadent barleywine. Good carb level. This is delightful. (230 characters)
