650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Viscous black body. Nice mocha head. Settles to a medium collar. A few islands of foam.
Smell - Dark chocolate. Citrus, but not a real distinct citrus. Some caramel.
Taste - Intense dark roasted malt. Coffee and bitter chocolate. Orange builds into the finish and an oily orange flavor persists.
Mouthfeel - Thick and very bitter. Medium carbonation.
Overall - I would prefer the orange flavor up front, but I'll take the chocolate orange combination any way I can take it.

Served from bottle into Westbrook snifter (proper!). Poured pitch black with a one finger brown head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, oranges, vanilla, dark chocolate, orange zest, and dark fruit. The flavor was of roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla, oranges, spice, dark fruit, and sweet alcohol. It had a heavy feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly good brew. The nose on this one was quote pleasant and very complex. The vanilla and orange notes come off quite strong and definitely draw you in. The flavor however does have a lot going on but it all hits you at once. Once that wave is over a spice note comes out and backhands you in the face. And just when you thought it was over the booze dropkicks you in the groin. I'm not saying that this is a bad brew, as it is definitely not. I'm just saying that a little more care on balancing all the flavors out would have done wonders for this one.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into chalice glass.
A: Poured midnight black with an almost usurp thickness and one finger tan head. Almost no lacing at all.
S: Big roasted malts, bitter espresso, dark chocolate, and a hint of citrus.
T: Much more coffee flavor than I was expecting. Nice roasty malts with high quality bitter dark chocolate and a hint of orange in the back.
M: Nice big bodied brew with fair carbonation and consistent with style. Coats the tongue nicely, but also has a strangely dry finish.
O: Very nice stout. I wasn't sure the flavor combinations would work with this one, but they do in spades. I might have to pick up another bottle soon.
