Nice oak smell and taste. Light cherry on the back end. Funk and tart are dominate. Feel is light and the flavors are gine fast. Overall not bad I would buy again!

these guys do these barrel aged sours so well, and for all the stouts and hoppy beers we all love from them, these are the ones i really am the most impressed by. a long aged red wine barrel flanders red, and its real well done. the wood is so strong on it that it almost covers up the vinegar aspect of the bacterial sourness that normally defines the style, but instead, its lots of wine tannins and funk, i think a way more complex beer than we are used to in the style, built perfectly for these barrels, and not at all over the top in any way. cherries, raspberries, raisins, cedar wood even, toasted bread, wet oak, strong red wine and some cranberry even, its intensely earthy and woody, compelling to say the least, still a lot of sourness, but some funk too, its just great. more carbonation than anticipated for such an old beer, i love how mature it is all around. notes of cola and cherry as it finishes, sour and wood heavy, like what we are used to but way more of it, and so mellow feeling, yum! these are the beers that set westbrook apart for me! cool to have it on tap!

Clear brown-hued red color with a white crown but no other head to speak of.

Great, tart aroma with strong oak. Very light red wine behind hints at some depth. Maybe cherry? Maybe vanilla?

Very tart taste, again with heavy oak and again with light red wine. A little burn on the backend then a wine-like finish.

Medium bodied, modestly creamy, with with a little prickly bite in the feel.

Pretty solid.

Westbrook Mr. Chipper
750mL bottle into a wine glass
Bottle on: 7/22/16

A: Pours a dark mahogany with a small light tan head. Head dissipates quickly and leaves a few patches of lacing. 4

S: Aroma is dart, sweet, dark fruits like fog and plum, lots of vinous notes. Oak and a tart, lactic acidity. 4.25

T: Taste is dark fruits, dark Malts, pretty big bitterness, tons of oak, moderate tartness. 4

M/D: Fuller side of medium bodied, carbonation on the higher en debut appropriate, drinkability is good. 4

O: Overall a good beer, nothing ridiculous but very enjoyable. The cost is a bit prohibitive, but it's still worth trying. 4

L: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a brown color and a thick, murky consistency. There was a small amount of off white, foamy head that quickly dissipated. Not much lacing, though.

S: A nice aroma of vinous elements, a sour quality, cherries, and light oak.

T: Tasted of a bit of oak, a lot of cherries, a definite sour quality (very apparent), light malt notes, a slightly vinegary quality, some other fruits (raspberries), and a bit of yeast. A very solid flavor that's quite sour, fruity and likable. A vibrant and sweet kind of taste.

F: A fair amount of carbonation with a lively, smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: One of the better American versions of a Flanders Red Ale. Definitely drinkable.
