22oz bottle. Poured into a Hunahpu's taster on 4/25/2014.
A- Dark black body, half finger dark mocha head, good retention, good lacing. Pretty much par for the course for these big barrel aged imperial stouts.
S- Lots of green apple brandy character mixed in with a strong chocolate fudginess, some dark chocolate and a bit of earthy coffee. The apple brandy barrel really does seem to be taking over the base beer in my opinion.
F- As in the nose, the apple brandy character is very strong. Sweet green apple, wet woody oak overpower the base imperial stout's dark chocolate, dark fruit and coffee flavours. I think the 2 years in the barrels were about a year too long in aging, but this is still a very good flavour profile.
M- Thick bodied, low carbonated. Drinking smoothly, some ABV heat does show up presumably from the apple brandy. Sweet but neither dry or resinous.
O- Solid apple brandy imperial stout; the apple brandy seems to be taking over too much here in my opinion. For the most part, I prefer my barrel-aged stouts to have a complementary presence from the barrels used; rather than it to be completely dominant. Still, this is a very good and very large beer that's enjoyable to sip on.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Inky black. Medium mocha head. Thin collar.
Smell - Apple brandy. Dark chocolate. Chalky oak. Sweet caramel.
Taste - Sweet apple brandy. Very oak. Chalky bitter woodiness. Dark chocolate. Pretty sweet and a little fudgy.
Mouthfeel - Heavy and sweet. Intense oak. Medium low carbonation.
Overall - As always, apple brandy fails to truly impress. It is a well made stout, though.

Such a thick pour of oil like blackness but upon deeper inspection it's a deep brown color that gives up light around the edge. The head was a substantive foam that laced well.
The nose has a lot of the Apple Brandy but creamy chocolate and roasted coffee sit nestled underneath.
The flavors are intense and the Apple Liqueur weaves its way throughout but never overpowers. First I get a huge chocolate flavor that is coupled with a creamy coconut. Then there's a natural Apple sweetness followed by white wine. It finishes with a caramel, toffee malt but the Apple Brandy is never forgotten.
The feel is very full, almost thick on the palate with a substantial alcohol heat and brandy liquor feel.
This is not my first Apple Brandy barrel beer but this is the first to truly take the flavor of the brandy and run with it. The flavors are intense and diverse and make this truly special.

Reviewed from notes. Twenty-two ounce bottle shared by Dan - thanks. Bottled 2/14/14.
A: Pours black with a half-inch thick mocha head which lingers and leaves spotty lace.
N: Sweet brandy, wood, boozy, dark fruits.
T: Cocoa powder, vanilla, dark chocolate, dark fruits, caramel, toffee, roasted malts.
M: Full body and medium carbonation. Finishes mellow and smooth, rich and boozy.
O: Wow, blown away with the barrel treatment on this. Really good.
