Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer, inspired by the flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine, is a twist on the classic Belgian witbier style. Instead of the traditional coriander and orange peel spicing regimen, we add fresh lemongrass, ginger root, and a dash of Sorachi Ace hops. The result is a wonderfully refreshing ale with notes of lemon candy, citrus fruit, and a slight spiciness from the ginger. Best served at 45˚F in a tulip or wine glass.

Westbrook just started canning two of their beers a couple weeks ago. I was able to snag a couple six packs from their first shipment from the brewery.

The White Thai is a pale, cloudy yellow color. It pours with a white one-finger head that quickly melts into the beer. It's pretty weird to pour a beer like this out of a can.

Belgian yeast and light spice in the nose.

More spice comes through in the flavor. Spicy up front, then (Belgian) yeasty with a malty, sweet, spicy finish. A little bit of crisp citrus comes through, but more like citrus zest than citrus juice.

A nice mouthfeel. Smooth, light to medium bodied. The carbonation is just right for this style. Perfect mouthfeel for this beer.

This is a really cool beer. I think it has somewhat of a non-threatening, mass-market potential, even among non craft beer drinkers. But at the same time, I think people who enjoy and appreciate full-flavored beer will enjoy and appreciate this beer for what it is.

Poured from the can into my 668 Neighbor tulip. Hazy amber body with a two-finger, fluffy white head. Some lacing.

Smells slightly of ginger, some nutmeg, and lemon.

Tastes pretty crisp. Nutmeg, lemon especially, and--again--only the tiniest bit of ginger.

Very thin mouthfeel. Mild carbonation.

This beer is tasty, but very muted. Good for drinking at a barbecue at an easy 5%.

12oz can, no canning date- at the bottom, it is marked "- - -", which is fairly cryptic. Poured into an unmarked snifter 7/19/2014.

A- Hazy, murky yellow body with a two finger white head with good staying power that leaves rings of lacing as it disappears. Looks good.

S- Whoa. Lots of ginger and lemongrass. At least, I think that's what I'm getting. Pretty herbal, spice-filled nose with a clean wheat and candi sugar base. This is pretty interesting, even though I'm not the biggest fan of heavy ginger flavours.

F- Lemongrass up front, some Belgian candi, a slight bit of freshly cut raw onions, wheat, pale malt, and a heavy ginger finish. The ginger is fairly strong but doesn't quite dominate. If you're a fan of ginger flavours (e.g. you like eating the ginger side on its own when you order sushi) then you are going to love this beer. As it is, it's quite floral and ginger forward.

M- Medium bodied, not lacking in any way. Good carbonation, refreshing with a good bubbliness to it. Very easy to drink despite the heavy ginger-forward finish.

O- I'm not a fan of ginger, but Westbrook executed this very well. This is what they intended, and they pulled it off. Its just a question of whether you like ginger and lemongrass in your witbiers.

Pours a deeply pastel yellow with a softness to a slight hint of orange hue. Milky , hazy and a scant head of white foam. Visually very appealing even thought the head does fall off fast and leaves only a think ring. Nose is lemony with a touch of ginger for a back note. It has a cracker like malt scent on the nose. Tall wheat with a perfume that is a touch sweet. A bit of spice form the sorachi ace hops but not too much. Pervading sweetness. The taste is a creamy and soft malt on a delicate hop body. The ginger is very understated but it lends a bit of lightness to the drink rather than heat or spiciness. Lemongrass uplifts the nose and this one is delicate and yet has a fullness on the palate that is all about flavor and not heaviness. The wheat is naturally sweet, crisp, dry but also soft. Yielding. Has a nice juicy middle without any real tartness and a delicate blending of the hops and the what malt finish it not dry but with a touch of sweetness.
