Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer, inspired by the flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine, is a twist on the classic Belgian witbier style. Instead of the traditional coriander and orange peel spicing regimen, we add fresh lemongrass, ginger root, and a dash of Sorachi Ace hops. The result is a wonderfully refreshing ale with notes of lemon candy, citrus fruit, and a slight spiciness from the ginger. Best served at 45˚F in a tulip or wine glass.

12oz can (canned 6/7/13) poured into an Idle Hands tulip glass.

A - Pours a very pale golden color with touches of orange in the body. Translucent and hazy with almost a light glow to it. A finger of frothy white head forms briefly and falls quickly leaving a thick collar on the edge of the glass.

S - Very fruity and spicy on the nose...lots of citrusy oranges and tons of lemon. Cloves, ginger, grass, sweet malt, black pepper, nutmeg. A lot going on here - smells more saison-y than witbier...but I like what I am smelling.

T - Yeasty, spicy, fruity and hoppy bitterness. Bready malt base, lightly grassy, a bit of gingerale with a light gingery bite to it, lemon, oranges. Crisp bitterness from the hops that mutes the fruity and spicy flavors a bit, keeping them from matching the aroma in intensity.

M - Lightish medium body...a bit heavy for the Witbier style, ample tingly carbonation, crisp hoppy bitterness, lots of spices - ginger comes thru especially as this warms up a bit.

O - I would definitely call this a saison instead of a witbier...and an enjoyable one. I like the spicy ginger bite against the Sorachi Ace hops...complements well. Good citrusy character too. Body is a bit heavy for style, but works if you think saison. Glad to try this one.

Poured from the can into my 668 Neighbor tulip. Hazy amber body with a two-finger, fluffy white head. Some lacing.

Smells slightly of ginger, some nutmeg, and lemon.

Tastes pretty crisp. Nutmeg, lemon especially, and--again--only the tiniest bit of ginger.

Very thin mouthfeel. Mild carbonation.

This beer is tasty, but very muted. Good for drinking at a barbecue at an easy 5%.
