Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: thagr81us on 01-04-2011

A base of pale, Munich, and Carapils malts is just enough to contain the massive hop flavor and aroma packed into this highly drinkable IPA. A blend of four American hop varieties is added four times in the kettle and twice in the fermentor for a complex and layered hop experience. Best served at 45-50˚F in a tulip or English style pint glass.

Excellent IPA. Golden colored, solid inch, inch and a half of head; well-carbonated but not overly so. Has all the big hop nose and flavor of a "west-coast" IPA but very little of the bitterness (60 IBU, it reads on the can). I suspect it's from a combination of finishing hops in the boil and dry-hopping, as are alluded to on the can. Well-balanced. 6.8 abv without any alchy bite. If I lived in the area, this would be a regular buy. As it is I'm definitely taking some home with me!

Poured into a tulip glass.

Look- Pours a very cloudy bronzish-straw glass with no head and only some lacing.

Smell- Clobbers you with spruce/pine when first poured, but that aroma is quickly outshone by grapefruit . Eventually they both make peace, blend and fade into one smell.

Taste- Much like the smell- first a blast of pine, but then the grapefruit notes take over. After that they blend into one "thick" taste. Trying to find one or the other will reveal it, but just enjoying the beer and not critiquing it allows them to meld into, I don't know, "pinefruit"? The beer is quite bold at first, but mellows as it goes along. Substantial bite.

Feel- Nice, but not exceptional.

Overall- A good beer, enjoyed it and would happily drink one if offered, but wouldn't seek it out again.
