Had during Brewvival 2012! Served from tap into a Brewvival sampler imperial pint. Poured pitch black with a minimal brown head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, coffee, pepper, and vanilla. The flavor was of roasted malt, sweet malt, coffee, and pepper. It had a heavy feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. I was actually a little disappointed in this one as I was expecting to give it at least all 4.5's going into it, but it just fell a little short of what I was expecting. However, this was still a solid brew without a doubt. It was served ice-cold which masked quite a few of the flavors and aromas so I used that time to catch up on notes while it warmed up some. This was a good call as the pepper made itself known after warming up and made the brew much more enjoyable. Really glad I got the chance to try this one a few days after having the regular version. A definite must try if you get the chance. Tick.

On-tap at Brewvival 2012
Looks beautiful. Big and inky black, with a creamy mocha head. Intense aromas of chocolate truffle, high-quality coffee, and chilies. Definitely lives up to it's name. "Roasty" and sweet flavors of chocolate, dark malt, caramel, coffee, cinnamon, and chilies. So good. Mouthfeel is full and creamy, with good carbonation. Such a phenomenal beer, didn't think it'd be possible to improve on the "regular" version!

On draft at the BA Mexican Cake Release
approximately 8 oz pour into a pint glass
A: Jet black, 1 fingers width of mocha colored head that dissipates fairly quickly. Small amount of lacing.
S: Huge fresh black coffee aroma. Smells great, but the coffee really dominates and the other aromas don't come out as well.
T: Again, coffee prominent, but more of the base beer flavors come out in the taste. A good amount of chocolate, and pepper (although the pepper does not seem as prominent as the regular MC,I think the coffee flavors mellow it out).
M/D: Exceptional mouthfeel, very smooth, and a great drinkability.
O: Overall, an excellent beer. I think I prefer the traditional Mexican Cake to this one as the coffee somewhat mutes the awesome flavor subtlties of the base beer. Still great though, for sure.

I just wanted to clarify for others that this was never bottled. Rumor is that it will be bottled in July of 2014 but that is rumor. Very solid at the brewery, enjoyed this. Just wanted to clarify for those who were trying to trade for it.
Overall an excellent brew.
