Notes/Commercial Description:
This is our interpretation of Gose (pronounced “Gose-uh”), a traditional German-style sour wheat beer brewed with coriander and salt. Once nearly extinct, this very refreshing style is making a comeback.

Growler fill from Charleston Beer Exchange. From notes.

A - They nailed the appearance! Cloudy, pale, off-yellow in color. Thin, bubbly white cap disappears very quickly.

S - Very assertive sourness with subtle grain and spicing.

T/M - Extremely tart and salty. Light coriander. Saltiness makes you immediately want another sip. Great carbonation, very prickly.

O - Highly enjoyable brew! So glad I was able to get at least something from Westbrook.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a snifter. Purchased in Myrtle Beach this past weekend, canned 3 weeks ago on 6/16/14.

A - Pours a dull, hazy yellow-orange body with a 2 finger white head that reduces to a layer of foam to leave spotty lacing.

S - Hard to explain.. I've drank multiple cases of this beer and I still can't exactly put my finger on the specific aromas/tastes, you just have to try it! I definitely get lemon juice, citrus rind, some spices, light malt, bready.

T - Perfectly tart, borderline sour, definitely salty upfront.. like yellow gatorade. The follow through has subtle pale malt notes, coriander and clove, and a subtle fruitiness.

M - Crisp, refreshing, light, and easy to drink. The shining point of this beer.

I call this the perfect session beer. If you're into sours, you'll like this as a drinkable brew that you can drink a lot of to get your sour fix, as opposed to having to crack open expensive bombers. Not traditionally funky-sour, but definitely different and definitely good.

Appearance: Starts with a big loose and crazy bubbly off-white head. Drops to nothing almost immediately, which has to be a result of the salt. Lively carbonation keeps the beer popping. A hazy pale gold/hay.

Smell: Tart. Loaded with a ton of wheat and the associated twang it offers. Mildly lactic. Malts outside of wheat are very light adding a mild bready sweetness. Some rich ripe peach comes through as it warms. Salt builds through the back. A mildly earthy and grassy hop presence. Coriander gives it a bit more depth. Lemon zest and a touch of something citric. Lactic element rounds out a bit as it warms. Clean and solid.

Taste: Lactic tart edge hits first and aggressive. Lingering lemon zest and lemon juice brightens it up a bit. Some mild pale malt sweetness with some earthy and damp elements. Salt sits on the back of the sip and manages to make subsequent sips bright and clean. Coriander is mild and sits in the middle of the sip before the salt scrubs it out. Some vague crackery elements in the back. Wheat malt is obviously prevalent. Some slight grassy notes. Lactic element builds as it warms and pushes toward being too assertive, but the salt on the finish tempers the whole thing.

Mouthfeel: Light leading to medium body with a moderate to high carbonation. Clean with a solid astringency. Dry in increasing measure.

Overall: Grant unto me a bounteous summer of cans.

This is refreshing and confusing. It's salty and that makes me thirsty...for more of this beer.

A: Light goldenrod to buckwheat in color. Slightly hazy from being unfiltered. 1 and a half finger white head, pretty fizzy. Fades quickly no lacing.

S: Pleasantly sour. Tart acidic notes. Bright lemon

M: Really fine carbonation. Crisp starting bite, creamy and smooth body from lacto bacteria, dry in the finish.

T: Nice sharp sourness, some acidity. A little spice character-white peppercorn or coriander. Light pear or lemon. Mouth drying and thirst quenching saltiness. Some earth and definitely some delicate wheat malts.

O: First beer of this style, but regardless it's a good beer if you like session beers, sours, wheats, berliner weisses. A good standard to measure the goses to come.
