This is our interpretation of Gose (pronounced “Gose-uh”), a traditional German-style sour wheat beer brewed with coriander and salt. Once nearly extinct, this very refreshing style is making a comeback.

12oz can poured into a snifter. Canned on 02/28/14.

A: Pours an opaque light yellowish gold with a dense two finger white head on top. Leaves some nice lacing behind as the head slowly dissipates. Too cloudy to see any carbonation.

S: Interesting aroma going on here, can tell this is going to be a sour and funky. The sour wheat dominates most of the aroma and blends with the yeast. Farmhouse attributes are heavy in this too.

T: Quite a unique and very tasty beer. Initially there is a tart flavor that is soon overtaken with a rich wheat malt backbone. The salitiness is light just giving it a bit more of a thirst quenching quality. Wheat qualities are very good.

M: Light to medium body with a crisp finish. Average carbonation. A bit puckering at first with the sour notes in this one.

Overall this is a beer you need to try to understand the flavor profile. I've had a good range of sours but this is still unique. Pick it up if your looking for an adventure.

poured 12oz can into snifter. Dated 9/9/13.

A - Extremely cloudy with a pale yellow coloring and thin 1 finger white head. Retention is minimal and no lacing.

S - Lemons, fresh lemons, fresh lemonade, with some ocean saltiness. Yes, there is a slight bit of funk, but nothing over the top.

T - Your palate is punched with sour lemons and then kicked with sea salt. It is sour, salty, then sour again.

M - Mouthfeel is clean, refreshing and packs a sour punch. Very easy drinking.

O - This is fantastic. With all the breweries in WI moving into sours, I'm going to need to convince one to brew a Gose. Can says to drink within 90 days and this is just over 180 and tastes terrific. This is super enjoyable.

Received as an extra in a trade and poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Poured a nice very, very hazy golden lemon hue that just looks salty. Solid appearance.

S - Bright aromas of light sour almost funk. Tart lemons, very tart, light coriander, faint salt, really really citrus packed.

T - Taste is loads of wheat up front and then nice tart lemons and grapefruit. Faint coriander. The salt is surprisingly prominent, especially on the finish. This is quite traditional with loads upon loads of tart lemons.

M - Mouthfeel is nice and crisp and refreshing. Very easy drinking.

O - Overall, Its hard to say if I liked Westbrook's Gose or Gozu more. I think Gozu had a ton more citrus, but, this Gose is more traditional and salty. Either way, both are really nice.
