This is our interpretation of Gose (pronounced “Gose-uh”), a traditional German-style sour wheat beer brewed with coriander and salt. Once nearly extinct, this very refreshing style is making a comeback.

Thanks to ahalloin for sharing this!

Pours the hazy yellow color with tinges of orange in there. Little ring of head. Looks good.

Smell is interesting and has the signature salty overtone mixed with some funky almost saison type aromas. Little bit of metallic aroma as it opens up unfortunately. The taste follows suit and adds a wheat cereal element very strongly that reminds me of wheaties. Little bit of an elegant tartness like a Sauvignon blanc, and some more aggressive tart light fruits at the back. Somewhat abrupt finish with a juicy feel up front. Not overly carbonated but it makes sense with the flavors.

Overall an interesting and solid example of the style.

I know sour beers are supposed to be all the rage these days. I've only had tastes of various sour beers and this Gose was my first time drinking an entire sour beer.

Not that I think the Gose was awful, I just don't want my beer to taste sour. The beer is refreshing in a weird and unexpected way. I didn't get any bit of saltiness or coriander as described on the can label.
