Served from bottle into a COAST Willi (semi-proper!). Poured a hazy yellow orange with a one finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, tropical fruit, pineapple, citrus, fruit, marijuana, tropical fruit hop, and fruit hop. The flavor was of sweet malt, citrus, tropical fruit, fruit hop, tropical fruit hop, spice, and subtle pineapple. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. Very nicely surprised with what I found on this one. The tropical fruit profile going on here was truly something to behold if I am honest. It was really nicely incorporated throughout each sip with all of the other aspects taking place here. It was also quite easy drinking and rather enjoyable. I could honestly see this one being a great brew to enjoy during the summer out in the sun. Well done on this one Westbrook. Well done. Tick.

Very cloudy pale orange beer with a weak head. Decent lacing though.

Strong grapefruit and citrus aroma. Tropical (mango) fruit. Smells almost like a fruit juice.

Some spicy bitterness upfront. Overtaken by a sweet maltiness. More hops after swallowing, but less fruity than in the aroma.

Thick and creamy compared to most other pale ales. Carbonation is quite delicate, but gives a nice sensation. Beer has a lingering bitter finish.

Pours a cloudy orange-gold with a dense white head that settles to a slight pillowy haze and thin, soapy ring. Moderate aromas of grassy hops, black pepper, tangerine, orange peel, and the same fairly sweet rye and caramel malt backbone that the other Rye Pale Ales has. Nelson Sauvin character is nice, but kinda muted. More tangerine and topical fruit in the taste, with a touch of peppery hops and smooth malt character. Mouthfeel is crisp and quenching, with a medium-thin body and good carbonation. Overall a nice addition to the Single Hop line-up, but not the most pronounced entry.

A: Clear orange yellow amber with a slight cloud and some particles of various sizes- dark spots and smaller particles suspended within. 3 finger yellowish foamy head.

S: Passion fruit, Hawaiian punch, fruity and tropical. Not getting much more.

T: Passion fruit, passion fruit, passion fruit, comes to the front and tropical punch hides in the background. Bitterness is balanced and not extreme, lingers on the tongue. Dry finnish.

M: Medium somewhat resiny body, medium carbonation.

O: Very enjoyable. Got this at Earthfare in Columbia, SC. Love the bottle, love the taste, unique unto itself. Would go well with spicy food, pinapple slices, bbq pineapple spears.

Pours a warm orange-amber with a quarter inch creamy bright white head. Plenty of delicate lacing on the edges. Nose is fruity, floral and some aromas I can't quite put my finger on.

Mouthfeel is medium, appropriate for the style, with smooth yet prickly effervescence.

Delicious rye spiciness mixed with a nice hop bite from that flavor I still can't quite isolate. Malt takes a backseat but yet provides enough balance to even the hop & rye out. Definitely a unique taste and aroma from the nelson sauvin hops. If you're tired of the same old pine or citrus flavors, this is the IPA for you.

More great brewing from Westbrook!

Half growler poured into a Delirium snifter on 9/14/12

Shared by PDXHops

Pale, almost watery orange-brown; medium depth with some cloudiness. One and a half finger head thins slowly leaving thick clumps of foam, ring retention and dense, crackly lace.

The hop aroma is interesting. It starts off with a sweetish, tropical, cotton candy/bubble gum type of smell, but as the beer opens up it has a pronounced peach nose. Fluffy, modest grains stay off to the side. Hints of pineapple, mango and sugar cookie.

After a brief showing of pine prickliness on the palate, the hops shift toward a blended-up tropical citrus montage. This starts to get punchy after several sips; it definitely has a good hop kick. Malts are of the toasty, grainy variety. The finish is dry with grapefruit bitterness.

Medium-light body with gritty resin and an appropriately peppy carbonation to boot. As the beer warms, the finish turns sticky sweet.

Overall impression - Really enjoyable to drink. I'd like to see more of this particular hop.

22oz. bottle served into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass

Pours a hazy, almost murky goldenrod color. I kinda' dig it, actually, bit it isn't pretty. Barely any head or lacing.

The aroma is pretty funky. I've brewed single hop beers using Nelson Sauvin and never have I made a beer that smells as musty as this one. It's lacking in top-end brightness from the hops. There's some grape, there's some botanicals. But mostly its a rye malt aroma that isn't spicy as much as it is musty. Like a Founders Red's Rye if that beer's dankness were replaced with staleness.

It doesn't taste bad though. It tastes like a malt-forward rye pale ale. It's spicy and musty and briefly flush with white-fleshed fruit. Slight bitterness here. The finish is a lingering rye malt character. Not much to this. Pretty OK though.

Overall this beer is a pretty average pale ale. It's way too malty to justify the pricetag. I like Westbrook, but this needs tweaking.

Served this APA on tap, at the brewery in a pint glass. Poured a hazy yellow color, produced an average white head, featured excellent lacing and head retention. The aroma consisted of malted grain, pear juice, citric grapefruit, lemon and a hemp tea like quality. Medium in body, this APA had a foundation of sweet malted grain, citric hops, pineapple and and spicy undertones. This is my first exposure to the Nelson Sauvin Hop variety and have to say I was impressed with the range of flavor. Excellent session beer, worth a try!

A: Had this beer on-tap at Gene's Haufbrau, poured into a pint glass. Had an amber color and a hazy consistency. There was an inch and a half of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A decent aroma of rye, hops, and some malt.

T: Tasted of the very distinct Nelson Sauvin hops, rye, a hint of citrus, and a good amount of malt as well. A solid flavor that depends on your love of rye and Nelson Sauvin hops. Not bad.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a grainy, earthy finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This beer certainly won't satisfy everyone, but it is worth a shot. Drinkable, in my estimation.
