Notes/Commercial Description:
For our Second Anniversary beer, we tapped into the legendary fictional adventures of the mythical Cap'n Skoon to bring you this monster Baltic Stout. It's big and roasty like an imperial stout but fermented with a German lager yeast. Ideal for sipping now, or be like the Cap'n and stash some away in your cargo hold for the years to come. Cheers!

Poured from a bottle gifted from Chris @ Peabody's in Boone, NC... into an Olde Hickory snifter.

Very solid brew, great look... black body and slight mocha head that fades quickly, sexy brown lacing. Roasty nose, slightly boozy... chocolate malty goodness with a peppery finish.

Killer brew - grab a few bottles if you get a chance.

A very good stout, though not as thick as the thickest newer IS. Lacey and black thicker looking body. Smooth mouthfeel, with some bitterness in the finish. Chocolate and coffee well integrated. I would like more coffee, and more "Baltic" flavour. Very good drinkability.
Doug's bottle for his B day.

Bottled: 12/18/12
Serving Temp: 45 Degrees
Glass: Tulip

Appearance:
Pitch black body with no light penetration. Rich, reddish-brown head (2 finger thick on pour) disappears quickly to nothing. Trace lacing and thick legs.

Aroma:
Thick syrup, heavy chocolate, and smokey campfire. Heavy roast. Sweet, dark dates and fig. Tart cherry and cola notes.

Taste:
Sweet, tart raisin and cherry. heavy smoked wood and light vanilla and caramel. Bitterness is present but overpowered by the dominant sweetness. Alcohol burn on the way down might turn some off. Aftertaste is raisin and ash.

Mouthfeel:
Thick - might want to have a spoon handy. Carbonation is noticeable, but just. Super sweet, syrupy finish.

Overall:
A tasty, if not a tad overly sweet treat in a glass. As the glass warms, a more prolific beer can be found - so follow the recommended serve temp of 55 degrees or start colder and allow the temp to rise, this is the perfect beer to get an understanding of how temperature affects taste and aroma. Definitely worth grabbing, if bottles are still floating around!

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled 12/18/2012.

Appearance - Very inky and dark. Stains the glass. Small khaki head. Wispy surface.

Smell - Dark fruits. Intense roast. Raisins. A little oxidized and a ton of black patent malt.

Taste - Really raisiny. Could be a result of age. Very bitter malts. Ashy coffee malts. Bitter.

Mouthfeel - Bitter. Medium heavy. Medium carbonation.

Overall - This could be too old. Seems strange that it would be. Either way, it's intense.

Served from bottle into a Westbrook snifter (proper!). Poured pitch black with a one finger light brown head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained excellent pacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, spice, cream, and subtle nutty. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, sweet alcohol, dark fruit, wood, earth, and milk chocolate. It had a heavy feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. There was a huge amount of complexity going on in this one that I really did not expect to find. Big notes of roastiness while still maintaining a nice sweet balance. This kept your palate alert and refreshed after each sip. Wish the alcohol would have been a little subdued on the flavor, but you can't win them all. Nicely done Westbrook and congrats on two successful years!

Bottled 12/18/12, poured into a snifter glass

A- pours pitch black with a small fizzy khaki colored head that vanishes almost immediately, leaving nothing bend

S- aroma of black licorice, dried fig, raisin & prune, sweet molasses, a hint of charcoal, black cherry and dark chocolate

T- flavor up front is dominated by a variety of dark fruits; fig, plumb, prune and black cherry. Sweet molasses kicks in mid-palate, complimented by a slightly smoky charred malt. A hint of dark chocolate follows, eventually finishing with medicinal holy notes and a linger of black licorice

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel, eventually finishing smooth and creamy with just a hint of lingering alcohol warmth. Alcohol is hidden quite well for the most part

O- This has aged quite nicely and everything seems to mesh well. It definitely opened up more in both aroma and taste after it warmed up a bit, a nice slow sipper

Draft at Grapevine. Pretty viscous black pour, thin layer of dark tan head.

Aroma, roast malt, dark chocolates. Pretty basic.

Taste, Big. Roast malt, anise, earthy peatiness. Dark chocolate. Kind of a dry woody and cocoa, light coffee finish. Lingers nicely.

About full bodies and nicely mouth coating. Could consider this creamy. Just a little warming. I like it, maybe not as much as the Cake, but this is still quality. Definetely a Baltic Porter flare to it.

Liked Medican Came better on draft, we'll see about this one. The bottle has some big shoes to match here.
