A monstrously big and hoppy Double IPA. The recipe for this beer was developed by Brewer Shane Cummings. F**kin' A!

Bottled on 3/31/2015: pours hazy copper color with a lot of active carbonation and bubbles racing up the brew like champagne; creamy 1-2 finger beige head that faded average to on the fast side which left very good lacing.

Nose is a potent mix of citrus fruit, graham cracker, caramel, malty biscuit and red grapefruit a bunch of tropical fruit come through like mango, pineapple, oranges and lemons, but the malt backbone is a solid foundation for the balance with wheat bread and toasted grains or cracked wheat. Sweetness is average and spices minimal but it still smells good. A little light for a DIPA, but close enough.

Tastes is sweeter and maltier than the nose with a lot more malt coming through, as well as some toffee and spices like pepper and brown sugar. Like the nose, the basics are covered with citrus hops, graham cracker, tea leaf, caramel, biscuit, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, orange peel, lemon zest, dry floral hops, dry grass, toasted grains and some piney hops. Balance is off a little as the malt has the slight edge, and for a DIPA the hops are not very aggressive and dominating like I had hoped for.

Mouthfeel is creamy and very smooth, with lighter than average carbonation, a medium body and only a minor bitter touch in the finish. Overall this was a good beer but not the hop monster the bottle hyped it up to be ("monstrously big and hoppy...."). I like Westbrook and most of the stuff I've had from them, but this one came up a little short. (1,482 characters)

A - Bright orange with a slight brown tint. Good white head with lots of foam

S - Balanced nose that has both mango sweetness and grapefruit bitterness

T - Mango and pineapple up front initially. Good hit of pine and grapefruit bitterness hit as the beer moves along the tongue. There is a malty orange sweetness that comes thru to temper the bitterness which lingers in the finish

M - Medium sticky body with hop resin remains on the tongue

O - Good balanced IPA that has both sweet mango flavors while also having a nice bitter presence to it (549 characters)

Bottled 4/1/2015.

Bomber served cold into a goblet. Shane's Big DIPA is a hazy copper color with thin, tight, white head. Slow to settle but little lacing.

Aroma is fresh and hoppy with nice citrus, pine, and tropical fruit.

Flavor is initially sweet with caramel and toasted malts. Leads into a hit of hoppy bitterness and more of that citrus character. Finishes with a dry, bitter, snap.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated.

A good DIPA that doesn't focus solely on the hops. Good balance and complexity from the malts as well. (547 characters)
