The beer is pale golden with a thick, hissing, white head that fades rapidly. The aroma brings lemons, grass, grain. A decent amount of tartness with some acidity in the finish. Pleasant puckering mouth feel. Light in body with ample carbonation. A solid example of the style.

Poured a hazy gold with a short-lived head of airy, crackling foam on the surface. Aromas of tart, juicy lemon, wort-like grain and wheat, and some subtle berries. Big, tart, juicy flavor...lemon, a faint cereal grain sweetness, and lime. Light bodied and effervescent with a puckering quality that leaves the gums dry. Refreshing, crisp, sour, lemony, dry as fuck. Very enjoyable sitting outside at a picnic table on a late summer evening.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled 3/29/13.

Appearance - Hazy pale yellow. Pours with a decent head but it doesn't last.

Smell - Very green and grassy. Grain and a little acidity.

Taste - Very grainy. A little bit of citrus tang. Sourness builds. Grassy flavors are back and a little offensive.

Mouthfeel - Light with high carbonation. Not super sour.

Overall - The "green" flavor is not pleasant. Almost vegetal.

Thanks to AtlCarl for sending this along in a late summertime trade, & it seems like the kind of beer that ought to be put down before Minnesota freezes solid. Big 750ML bottle, too big for my little girl hands, but not bad for holding beer.

And let us pause to appreciate the bad '90's pun of the beer (though I quizzed a couple of kids at the Great Taste about "Bo & Luke" from Against the Grain & they admitted they didn't have any idea the beer was referencing anything). Pour is sheer white gold, light enough to be mistaken for a Pinot Gris. Aroma jumps off the surface: barely green apples, lightly acidic, spicy, lemon, all sorts of wildness. For a low ABV beer, this has more layers than a head onion.

Weisse Weisse Baby is more pucker up than amber waves of grain. As with too many soured beers, the wonderful complexity of the nose gives way to a few repetitive notes plunked out on the tongue: tartness than leans into sour, long/lean wheat, drizzle of lemon. Bit low on carbonation for the style, which lowers the drinkability, too.

Dah. If the aroma was bottled, this would be a fantastic beer. As is, there's a gaping chasm between nose & mouth which leaves me wanting more. Pretty good.

A small head of white foam on a hazy, golden body. An earthy aroma of hay and barnyard with some lemon. Lots of tartness up front with notes of coriander and more funk. Finishes with lemon and pepper as well as more grassy hay. Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a dry finish. Nicely done, there is a level of complexity one rarely sees in this style, though it is almost too musty and I would be afraid it might get a bit septic tasting if not consumed fresh.

Very large frothy head that breaks down fairly fast on a cloudy dull golden body. A lot of tropical fruit, mostly pineapple and tangerine with clover and other herbs, musty grains and tangy notes. Flavor is also fairly tart and tangy but not too over done. Its is bit watery. The finish has a decent amount of wheat with candy sugar. Additional yeast, grass and pepper notes but they are mild contributors. Light to medium body and moderate to high carbonation. I liked this one but it doesn't stand out from others I have had.

Bottle from The Festival in Portland.

Hazy wheat yellow-orange pale colored, light fizzy head fades quickly to nothing.

Nose has plenty of wheat, straw, little toasted cream of wheat, fermented corn, light sour apple

Taste is like apple cider, light vinegar, then more fermented corn and wet hay, grassy, yeasty, little bready and cracker crumbs, quite sour.

Mouth is lighter bod, crisp but very sour.

750ml, 3/29/13
HF wine glass

A: Slightly hazed pale yellow color. Very pale. Initially had a layer of really fizzy bright white head but it burned off completely very quickly. Ring of tight bubbles. No lacing. But carbonation seems high.

S: Really smelling the tart lactic quality right away. More sour than other Berliners I've had. Cereal grains. Lemon zest. Light citrus.

T: Burst of tartness right away. More than other Berliner. Almost bordering on sour-ish. After the mixture of tart funkiness and prickly carbonation on the tip of the tongue, blends into the wheat and cereal grains. You get touches of citrus, very light lemon. Lemon rind and zest. Finish has some of that lactic character, almost a slight creamy character (yogurt). Lingering flavor.

M: Medium bodied.
