Bottle pour at Dave's tasting.

Pours an opaque, bottom of the Mariana trench sort of black. 1.5 inch foamy brown head forms, leaving good little strings and globs of lacing on the glass.

Smells include vanilla, roasted malt, chocolate, oak, and cinnamon. No pepper aromas yet, but this is still probably the best smelling stout I've ever had.

The taste is mind-bogglingly good. I first get vanilla, then some roasty bitterness, then chocolate, then apple brandy then vanilla again with some oak, then cinnamon, then an absolutely delightful spicy pepper twang at the end of each sip. Every advertised flavor is on full display here, melding into the next one perfectly. Oh. my. God.

The pepper builds up in your mouth the more you drink of this, leaving a warming heat on your lips. This is medium to full bodied- the slightly thin body for such a big flavored stout is the only points knock I can honestly give this. Insanely drinkable for the ABV. Creamy, thick mouthfeel.

A game changer. This is the way to add adjuncts to stouts, and is possibly the best stout and the best beer I've ever had. Speechless, I'm so sad I most likely won't ever have it again.

S - Apple brandy presence is strong up front to the give the beer a light sweet apple cider nose. There is also loads of chocolate, vanilla, light spice and cinnamon

T - Sweet apple brandy presence to it, vanilla, and chocolate. Good amount of chocolate to it as well as loads of spice and cinnamon. I didn't think this one has as much heat from the peppers as the JD one did.

M - Sticky smooth beer but not too thick. Lots of spicyness on the back end that lingers on the finish

O - This is another great Mexican cake variant which really highlights the apple brandy presence by being sweeter than the JD and bringing that sweet apple crumble presence to the chocolate and fudge in the base beer. I thought this one was sweeter and not as hot as the JD. I also slightly preferred the JD version to this one.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled 6/6/2013.

Appearance - Black body. Small khaki head with some reddish tinges at the edge.

Smell - Smells very sweet. Graham cracker and a little peppers. Lots of apple brandy.

Taste - Sweet apple brandy. Very sweet. Chocolate, but it's lacking a fudginess. Peppers cut in and turn into graham cracker with the oak in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Heavy and sweet. Medium carbonation. Boozy.

Overall - The apple brandy makes it too sweet to compare to the other BA cakes, but it's good.

Enjoyed at The Porter Beer Bar in Decatur, GA from a bottle. Pours a thick, opaque black with some minimal head. Heavy notes of harvest spices, cinnamon and some chocolate too. Taste definitely has the apple brandy barrel notes but is at times overwhelmed by rich spiced coconut flavors and chocolate undertones. Extremely complex with rotating flavor palettes that work in harmony. The finish is surprisingly spicy deep in your throat from the pepper additions. Quite a neat experience and absolutely delicious, although extremely rich and probably a bottle best split between two people. As my wife noted, tastes like how Cracker Barrel's Old Country store smells, but in a glass, loaded with coconut and seasoned with chili spices.
