**BEER ADVOCATE BEER NUMBER 2,323**

Many thanks to cistercian12 for this bottle! 2013 bottle, opened July of 2016 - so just over three years old. Poured from the 22 oz. bottle into a J. Wakefield OG Club teku glass.

A: Dark black, essentially opaque, with a half-finger of tan head with decent retention. Fairly low amount of visible carbonation.

S: Whiskey, oak, and chocolate; chilis, vanilla, and cacao nibs. Oak tannins and cinnamon. Very nice and complex.

T: Chocolate up front, with quite a bit of cinnamon, chilis, and oak. Less whiskey than on the nose but still present for sure. A nice pepper flavor, though with a punch of capsaicin heat (more than, say, Hunahpu). Vanilla, cacao nibs, and notes of tobacco. Some sweet molasses character, though I don't see that listed as an ingredient. Chocolate covered chilis overall (or perhaps a nice mole as somebody pointed out) in the hang.

M: Nice thick body, though less sticky that some Imperial Stouts. Low carbonation but not flat - fits the beer well. I do feel the alcohol heat but the flavors are well-integrated.

O: Really, really good beer. Very well-done. I'm quite impressed.

Tan head. Black color.

The heat and peppers are amazing! I love how much they show. Great vanilla and cocoa. I didn't think JD barrels could taste so good. Great bourbon, oak, and vanilla. Full bodied. Thick.

Absolutely incredible.

Bottled 6/6/13 and aged 18 months before bottling so this bottle was aged about 36 months before consumption.
This is one of the best if not the best barrel aged stout I ever had.
A: Pitch black with a dark tan head
S: Vanilla, cocoa, cinnamon, oak, bourbon, and a light pepper aroma.
M: Heavy bodied and slick, perfect
T: Starts off with some light cinnamon, ginger, vanilla, oak, as well as cocoa, roasted malt and some vanilla
Finishes with a subtle heat in the back of throat from the chili peppers but not overly spicy
Blown away 5/5

Pour is black with brown edges. Nose is sweet, dark malt, berry sweetness, a hint of roast. Taste has more sweetness, a good bit of burning whiskey, strong hot spice in the finish. Malts are rich and big, body is full with strong carb. Overly sweet on the finish. Heat is strong as well from the spice on the finish.
