750ml. Hazy unfiltered wheat looking gold pour, finger of frothy white that retains really well.

Aroma, Big citrus zest, some funk. Some light hay, grainy malt. Lighter sweetness, clove and caramel.

Taste, Earthy with a good dose of Italian spice up front. Clove and light bubblegum. A little horse blanket. A solid bittering finish, grapefruit.

Good high level of carbonation, maybe just a tad high. This is a very dry saison. Easy drinking. Well worth trying, like the others in the series. I'm guessing this will age pretty well.

look: 4.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance:
Bright, hazy orange body. White head has great retention and lacing. Tons of carbonation.

Aroma:
Heavy brett and Belgian yeast. Fantastic funk. Pear and apple fruit notes with a hint of pepper.

Taste:
Vibrant rye profile laced with gobs of brett. One of the funkiest beers I've had in recent memory. Damp wheat, dandilion, grapefruit and kiwi, and dry grass. A bit of spice is present as well. Nice bitter bite on the finish.

Mouthfeel:
Light and heavily carbonated. Semi-dry finish. Nice aftertaste.

Overall:
Quite a tasty saison! Easy to drink, light, and packs a refreshing punch. Highly recommend to fans of the style!

Shared with JLindros and Threelions.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a crystal clear straw hue with a thin one finger he'd that fades to leave light lacing.

S - Aromas of funky brett, light fruity, soft malts, mostly brett.

T - Taste is bubblegum, tropical brett, funk, light malts. Nice fruits, just a brett and funky saison.

M - Mouthfeel is crisp and clean. Tasty.

O - Overall this beer was just a brett bomb, which isn't a bad thing. Surprisingly good.

750ml

Bottled: 8/21/13

Yet another bottle sent my way by Wilson! Thanks, dude! A slow gusher, watch yourself. The body immediately glows apricot orange as it fills the glass. There's enough haze to muddy up the body, thanks to that slow gush. A head stiff as meringue with peaks and valleys decorates the crown and leaves behind big chunks of resilient lacing. Now this is how a Saison should look.

Bretty hay, like a late summer farm, kicks off the nose with accompaniments of pineapple, dusty attic, and band-aid. A wheat tang adds that so very mild tartness. Fruity esters come forward with peach and green apple mostly. There's a little mushiness before spicy rye and doughy malt bring up the rear with a soft sweetness. The nose shows good depth and smells appetizing. It's hard to keep my nose from the glass.

While the flavor isn't as well defined as the nose it still packs a punch. The wheat is most noticeable up front with a sprinkling of rye. The brett addition pops mid palate with hay and pineapple being most prominent but the other aspects show themselves here and there through the finish. Soft esters I mentioned in the aroma pop up toward the finish along with mild grassy bitterness.

The body is light and effervescent. The carbonation is active, tightly bubbled and quick moving but doesn't quite reach the heights of the best Belgians with the frothiness. A little chalkiness dries up quickly with noticeable, and lingering, grassy bitterness. Drinkability is off the charts.

Taylor is the first Saison I've had from Westbrook and I have to say, they nailed it! The brett additions add a ton of depth and flavor but in no way dominate, the Saison itself is juicy and grassy, while the quenching drinkability is absurd. Thanks again, Wil!

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy bright orange. Medium white head. Lots of surface wisps.

Smell - Some tropical fruits. A bretty earthy smell. Pale malt.

Taste - Some of the tropical fruit comes through, but a lot is masked by bitterness and earthy yeast flavors.

Mouthfeel - Medium light body. Bitter.

Overall - Second of this series that has been decent, but not exciting.
