Citrus Ninja Exchange is the first of two collaboration beers brewed with The Charleston Beer Exchange. The first incarnation (released on draft only in September 2011) was a single-hopped Cascade double IPA brewed with approximately 50 lbs of fresh grapefruit, and then dry-hopped 4 times in the fermentor. The 2012 version has a simplified malt bill and uses a blend of American and New Zealand hop varieties.

Recieved this in trade with mdfb79 back in Nov/Dec 2015 - Thanks Dan!
22oz bomber with a nonic pint
Appearance of sunburnt orange, cloudy with floating debris. Nice sudsy foam khaki top with some loose sticking bubbles. Smells of grapefruit zest and malt sugars. A bit of stinging booze and herbal pine hop as well. The flavor falls short of expectations here. Heavy with the caramel malt action it becomes a bit muddled and already somewhat stale with an overwhelming alcohol presence. Low-moderate actual hop bitterness. Some grapefruit highlights. While I do recall this bottle had a few months on it this one was a bit of a mess for me. Too boozy and the grapefruit had already lost its luster I am afraid. I was pretty hopeful for this one and glad to have tried.
Looks like it is retired now, oh well

L: Soft golden orange that is very cloudy with a lot of bubbles. One inch thick white head that leaves a lot of lacing and has very good retention.
S: A ton of hops with a lot of citrus (obviously) and a little bit of grapefruit. There is the faintest hit of pine and earthy tons.
T: Like biting into an orange. Juicy without overwhelming sweetness. It finishes nicely with soft hops leading to a very gentle bitterness. Reminds me of Blue Moon, but way way better.
F: Very smooth with a decently heavy body. The carbonation is fairly light.
O: A good beer, but definitely could have used more hops. The Blue Moon comparison is spot on in my opinion with a splash of hops.

Acquired this in a trade. Poured dark golden/orange, grapefruit, tangerines on the nose. Huge grapefruit notes on the initial sip, followed by more citrus/tropical fruit, slight malt character, comes off a little bitter yet sweet. Heard this compared to Grapefruit Sculpin - I think it's better. Less grapefruit forward, it's present but it doesn't overpower the beer at all. Nice IPA
