A block or so from Castro St. this place is normally busy every time I've have visited. Different dining areas incudes an area where a large TV is located and a patio area. TV's are around the bar as well.

Stainless Steel tap nozzles, some shinier than others and the kitchen is in the open with a real grill. Wood tables and chairs also the wood bar is L shaped around the separate (glass) brewing room. Restroom was clean.

Service was disconnected but friendly. The bartender was doing his own thing and even the waitresses were frustrated with him.

The beer selection is the same as the Tied House in San Jose, nothing really risky and no guest or cask options. The Oatmeal Stout is a possible notable.

The food was alright, cooked on the grill, however the vegetables were questionable. The vegies had a couple of deep fried fries mixed in, some may think that's a bonus but they were soggy, also this may implied that the vegies were deep fried.

Plus: Decent in house selection. Nice outdoor seating. Decent food.
Minus: No guest taps. Sportsbar atmosphere.

The brewpub-sports bar theme can be a bit hackneyed. While the Tied House doesn't stray far from this formula, there are a few things that make it worth visiting. Ample seating, both indoor and out, means you can escape the plethora of televisions. For that matter, the ratio of screen square footage to floor space is low. I noticed about six to eight TVs, non of which seemed overly large. If you want to watch the game, you can, but if not, you're not accosted by visual stimulation in every direction. The beer, at least the few I had, are very fresh and well done. On my most recent visit, there were three single hop IPAs (all very well done) as well as a few other one offs. Add to that the eight to ten regular beers and you have a decent selection. The food is good bar food. A nice selection of small and larger plates. Service was good, although there were few people there on my last visit.

Worth a repeat visit? Maybe. There's not much to choose from once you get closer to San Jose. If they had a few rotating guest taps, then I'd be more likely to return. If I wanted a quick bite and a beer, probably. In the end it would depend on whether I was going to stay in the area or venture further north where there might be more to find.

Been here a few times since the corporate office for my company is based in the area. This is a moderately sized to large establishment compared to many other brew on premise locations. I always like the atmosphere of seeing the brew tanks behind a glass wall while sitting at the bar, it's just a cool vibe. The food has always been good and the beer is hit or miss. The beer selection is aimed at the majority, middle of the road beer drinkers, which is understandable since I think the majority of the beer geeks run in a small minority compared to the rest of the beer industry. Their stout is respectable and has won some awards in the past. Don't expect to find some extreme beers on tap, but they did have a few that were in the bottle available for sale. I tried a Double IPA that was definitely better than the rest of their beers on tap, but fell short compared to others in the same class. However, these guys are promoting craft beer so I would recommend them over any of the other places I've been to in Mountain View so far.

Bottom line? Food has always been very good, a definite plus; beer has been less than appealing for my taste buds. They cater to the middle of the road and the macro transitioning to craft brew crowd. Hey, it's a business model that works, otherwise they wouldn't be around for this long. Next time I'm here with colleagues, I may go for a martini or some other vodka concoction instead. No criticism, just no beer karma for me. (Again, if the business model works...which it does for them.)

ATMOSPHERE
It was a Saturday night. The dining area are all busy and the bar is just beginning to fill up which help distract you from their very plain decor. Overall the people there made it tolerable.

QUALITY
The beer here is awful. My buddy BillySJ and I had the sampler. Everything served was seemed water down. I've been to the one in San Jose when it used to be there, it was bad then too. We gave it another chance in MV, but the results were the same.

SERVICE
Bartender was very attentive and remembered everything requested.

SELECTION
It did have up to 8 variety of beers. The raspberry wheat was the best of the worst. It tasted like advertised which was fruity.

FOOD
Had the burger which was good, but the onion rings... not so much. Overall, ok.

Definitely no for coming back.

I should have known better because I had already given the San Jose location enough chances to impress me, but I had some time to kill and I could get here on the light rail.

Located in a great town with an abundance of dinning spots and shops. Walking in, there is an industrial feel to it with a hint of sports bar with Techies and business types, and Silicon Valley prices.

On tap were about 1/2 dozen beers-the standard mid-90's line up. Gold, Amber, Stout, Wheat, etc. I had a pint of the Maibock-which was OK, a bit too sweet for the style and with a rough alcohol heat finish. I also tried a sample of Dry Stout-not anything special-a bit thin.

Had a burger and onion rings-burger was not very good-it was dry and the bun was even dryer. I would have preferred Carl Jrs to the Tied House burger.

I had very good service at the bar.

If you want check off this brewpub from your list of Bay Area brewpubs you haven't visited then go-otherwise when in Mountain View there are sooo many other places to get a great meal.

This is a restaurant/brew pub located in downtown Mountain View. It's in a good location, walkable and near lots of other restaurants and bars. It's very large inside with ~5 beers on tap. The beers are decent but nothing to write home about. The food is average, cheap, filling and unmemorable. Not too different than any other laminated menu restaurant in terms of food quality (Chilis, TGIF, Applebees, etc). It's a fairly fun place to meet up with friends for a decent beer and some grub. Nothing here to get excited over though.

The second brewpub I ever visited - the other being Seabright Brewery in Santa Cruz, CA.

The Tied House is a great place for any gathering of friends, or just for a good beer made on the spot. The food is your normal pubfaire, with a little more emphasis on seafood, which I don't eat, so I can't say much about that (unfortunately). There were 8 beers available upon my visit, and I tried their Hefeweizen which was above average, and their seasonal fruit beer (Raspberry). I must say I was a huge fan of the Raspberry Ale. Just the slightest hint of raspberry made it a well-balanced beer, and was perfect for the summertime heat.

Their burgers won't disappoint, and I have never had a problem of fries becoming mixed with veggies - unlike another reviewer. The waiters were on top of things, and were exceptionally helpful with special requests on my group's orders.

The acoustics, however, leave a little to be desired - it gets kind of loud inside, but the outside area is quite nice (naturally shaded with vines on wooden grids overhead). Otherwise, it's a great place to take a load off after work or a long day.

This is a huge place, with wooden tables, seats and bar. High ceilings and a beer tent/garden. They offer their usual + a few seasonals. Happy hours have 2.75 pints and they have growlers to go. Food was actually very good, and the beer decent. Prices are reasonble, especially the beer. Service is slow, and not always friendly, but it's a rather big place. IMO, their food is better than the beer they brew, but still a place to go when living in Mountain View. Worth checking out during happy hours 4-6 weekdays or 9 till close on Saturdays.

I've been to this place a few times in the past, and I stopped in for drinks on Saturday March 27 at around 10pm.

The place is very big, with lots of tables for dining, and an outside dining area. The bar is real long. They have a mug club but I think they give you these ugly ass white ceramic mugs to drink from. Out back is a huge parking lot where they have held beer festivals in the past.

The place is clean and casual. There are maybe half a dozen TVs playing sports, and one large projection TV in the front corner. They have a decent selection of year round beers, but this time I came for the seasonals -- currently Raspberry wheat (just a tiny whiff of raspberry) and a Mai Bock. Not as good as I remember, but pretty good.

We asked for a pitcher of Mai Bock, and the waittress said this was not allowed because there was too much alcohol. I should've asked the manager or something. Anyways, we ordered separate pints. They switched our wait staff at some point. I dunno, they weren't friendly at all. Not like they were swamped or anything.

Food: This time my friends got the icecream cake and some other dessert, which was fine. I brought my friends for dinner here about a year ago and the food was disappointing. Beer is the focus here, although even the beer is not that exciting.

---
I went again last year sometime, and the beer seemed to get worse. They've expanded to full liquor.
