Served in a pint glass

Appearance – Pours a fairly nice golden color with a billowy head. Large carbonation bubbles cling to the side of the glass as the billowy head fades to leave only the slightest bit of lacing.

Smell – Get the lightest hints of biscuit/breadiness which is soon lost to some light citrus hop aroma. Overall quite mild on the nose.

Taste – A bit of malty sweetness up front is soon lost to a rather more mild citrus and floral hop taste. None of the tastes really stands out too strong, which make it a little bland, but also give it a nice balance.

Mouthfeel – A moderate level of carbonation and a thin-medium body make it very easy to drink away, although it leaves the tongue and mouth something to desire in texture.

Overall – This really isn’t my big style so it is always tough to judge. As with most pale ale’s in my opinion its very easy drinking and would be good for a nice hot day sitting outside, but nothing to really savor.

First had: on tap at the brewpub

A clearish amber pour with a small white head; some lacing, but not much retention. Decent balance of caramel malts and citrus hops in the nose, pretty indicative of the style. The taste mirrors the aroma, with a good balance of caramel malts, citrusy hops, bready, a little bitterness in the finish. About light-medium in body, and good for the style, but not as crisp and flavorful as some of its peers. Decently drinkable overall.

At the Bellefonte restaurant.

A: The pale ale is a caramel amber color, fuller in body that the IPA that followed it. The first translucent ale of the day! A thin, bubbly white head came with the glass, leaving legs of lace behind.

S: The nose is citrusy, a crisp hoppiness that I've been anxiously awaiting. Grapefruit is ample, balanced but by plenty of caramel.

T: Balance is the key, allowing the tantalizing citrus aromas to shine through but not dominate the ale. The hoppiness is very soft, yielding regularly to caramel malts. Very drinkable, sessionable even.

M: The piquant hops never get too strong, allowing the ale to take the 'balance' route. Plenty bready throughout, although never heavy.
