Poured from a recently purchased bottle into the test glass.
A - Chalkboard black, delightfully large mocha cap, sea foam lacing clings to the glass.
S - Burnt brown sugar, vanilla, 70% dark chocolate, fig, bourbon and toffee with black cherry, roasted walnut.
T - Complex, dark wood, and sweet roasted malt, mocha frosting on a fudge cupcake. some cigar wrap elements. The 10+ percent ABV is well hidden in the complexity.
M - Luxury, rich and full in body, soft on the palate, with a sweet start, the middle of the experience dries out a bit and leaves a bit of fusel in the otherwise clean finish. The linger is elegant.
O - A large offering that is well balanced, not weighted in any one area. Beautiful in construct, and execution.

Pours black with a 3-finger thick caramel colored head. Head foams up incredibly nice, and thick, with fantastic retention. Lacing is dark, and caramel colored with plenty of coverage. Aroma shows some boozy, bourbon flesh poking through, with notes of roasted malts, and chocolate. Flavor profile is delightful, with notes of caramel, coffee, chocolate, macchiato, and some boozy, bourbon. The boozy bourbon is well-tamed, adding a twist of complexity, and flavor, without making it unpalatable. Mouth feel is bit and thick. It's almost more of a meal then a drink. Grains, and particulate help thicken-up the consistency and bolster the texture even more. Overall, an incredible bourbon barrel-aged coffee stout. It delivers from first pour, all the way until the final sip.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

very surprised this doesnt have higher ratings than it does, its a wonderful beer, as thick and deep and complex as any of the highly acclaimed american takes on the style. maybe its the highly prevalent booze factor in here that turns people off. it doesnt appear too many pains were taken to conceal its strength, but i honestly like it in this context, especially this time of year, and especially in a beer that has most of it malt sweetness in the middle and not the end. there is a wonderful bitter chocolate and milk chocolate finish with the booze, almost more like a cordial than a beer, its pretty different and cool. the barrel factor is awesome here, and while i have never had the original, i have to imagine it adds quite a bit. sweet whiskey and vanilla love the dark malts and the chocolate notes in here, and the smoothness it provides cannot be denied. lots of body, sticky, but only in the middle, ashy and burnt bitter by the end. somewhat less coffee than i expected, but i always feel that way about coffee beers from these guys, you never know how old their beer is in the market, and coffee tends to fade sometimes. its present here, but lost a bit perhaps to the other intense flavors going on, an accent now at best. still, a wonderfully delicious barrel aged imperial stout, a little different than most, and expert as it warms up. these guys rule!

375 ml bottle into snifter, best before 12/10/2019. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, fudge, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, and roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, coffee, bourbon barrel, and moderate fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, fudge, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark bread; with light licorice, molasses, dark fruit, and roast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate coffee/roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, fudge, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted malt bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from bitter/spiciness as well. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish; with zero barrel booziness. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged imperial coffee stout! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
