Just hit shelves here about a week ago. 12.3% ABV.

A: Viscous jet black pour with a big and dense dark brown head. Great head retention and pretty thick lacing to boot.

S: Lots of dark fruits immediately. Lots of grapes and lots of char. Bitter cocoa and chili powder. Interesting combo.

T: Up front is the big fruitiness of the sherry. Chili pepper kicks in fast. Way more heat in this than the base beer. Nice spiciness with quite a bit of chalky char and some bitter cocoa to go with it. Lingering spiciness in the finish and aftertaste, reminds me of a chipotle powder when the char combines with it. Long, long lingering chili dusty chili powder flavor. No real heat despite the >12% ABV.

M: Heavy but not overly so. Charry and chalky - borderline dry in the finish (from a relative standpoint for a big ABV stout, anyway).

O: Very unique brew. Spicier than the base beer (at least, according to my memory). The fruitiness of the sherry provides another layer of complexity but otherwise it is very similar. Pretty well balanced. Not sure if it's worth the $17 for a 12.7 ounce bottle (yikes) but it was nice to try.

Bottle purchased at Premiere Gourmet in Buffalo, NY.

This one pours a dark black, with a small, quarter inch head, and no lacing.

This one smells like dark fruit, roasted malt, chocolate, and a little bit of sherry. No pepper here, at least in the aroma.

In the taste, the pepper is quite subtle. I get no actual pepper flavor, but a little bit of heat in the finish. The sherry character is pleasant, and provides some nice sweetness, and comboes well the dark fruit well to provide some sweetness against the fairly bitter, and slightly smoky stout base. Really nice balance here between the sweet and bitter components.

This has a medium bodied feel to it, slightly thin for the style, with a very creamy mouthfeel. No alcohol feel at all.

I wish I could have gotten more pepper flavor out of this one, but even without it, this one was a very tasty stout.

Pitch black with tan head with red hues. Aroma is cherries, red fruit, sweet chocolate and roasted malt. Very creamy palate. Aftertaste is dry, fruity, sweet, floram and spicy alcohol. Overall: excellent. Sweet and nice.

Ap - Awesome. Classic imperial stout.

Ar - Berry character.. Almost tart, char, chocolate, light vanilla.

T - Subtle heat, feels more like alcohol burn than chili. There's too much char for my liking. The berry character, vanilla and chocolate all blend well. But they're masked by the char and alcohol burn.

M - A touch thin for what I was hoping for. But carbonation level is perfect.
