12oz bottle poured into a To Øl Teku glass.
The beer pours a super murky brown caramel color, hues of burgundy and tan with a bone colored head, very billowy and soft, nearly 2 fingers high that has nice retention and leaves behind a massive web of lace. The aroma is heavy on fruit forward coffee, citrus hop with a touch of pine and sweet, rich caramel malt with just a touch of subtle roast. On the tongue, the coffee is integrated so nicely with the fruity hops, nice roast, pine, citrus and rich malt that is balanced well and transitions very nicely from coffee roast, to fruity hop to smooth malt. The body is nice, very lively, with crisp carbonation that dances on the tongue nicely with a nice dry finish.
Verdict: A very unusual beer, but quite successful in it's mission to blend coffee and hops. The beans used perfectly compliments the hop profile and aren't overly harsh or roasty, but rather smooth and highlight the fruit flavors in both the beans and the hops.

Appearance is a nice orangey-deep tan body with full cream colored head that smells great and has decent retention. Aroma is of floral hoppiness and light sweet coffee, I also get some caramel type sweetness. The taste hides the 10.5% extremely well. I had to look at the bottle again to check the ABV. Again with the caramel/coffee sweetness alongside the great malt balance, and great earthy/floral hop character. Mouthfeel is creamier than most IPAs and it doesn't dance on the tongue like IPAs do. I was worried about this beer being out of date, and I almost cellared this for a year to push it towards a coffee barley wine. The bottle top had a date of 8-2-14, which is over a year away, so I doubt that's a best by date. Anywho, my first Mikkeller offering and I wasn't disappointed. Not a stellar as the Dayman coffee IPA, but still extremely enjoyable. I look forward to coffee IPAs being a standard.

Grudgingly paid $7 for this at Bier Thirty... My homeboy Chris said it was "interesting"... good enough for me.
Poured into my slim tulip... a light tan big bubble head dies back noisy and quickly.. the brew is hazed amber.
The nose shows decent coffee that combines with a piney hoppiness that is soooo of the charts odd..
Flavor is much more all about the coffee.. the beans shine with a background IPA note... hints of hops are blown out by the coffee... There is more than enough malt leftover too help deliver both the coffee and the hops... again, this is a very weird one... beans and cones linger on the finish..
Body is a standard DIPA, but there seems to be a "slickness" that adds to the drinkability.
So surprised I liked this one... I passed at Bier Thirty for a couple of weeks... But honestly, this is a very interesting brew and only going to get worse as it sits on shelves... buy it now.

A: The beer is hazy orange-amber in color (somewhat resembling apple cider when viewed from afar). It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that died down but never completely faded away.
S: There are light aromas of citrusy hops in the nose—grapefruit stands out in particular—along with some notes of coffee. The coffee becomes a little stronger as the beer warms up.
T: The taste is similar to the smell except that the coffee flavors are more prominent. There is also a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The addition of coffee makes this IPA very unique compared to other beers in the style. I wasn't initially sure if coffee and grapefruit would be the best combination (except for breakfast) but this is a beer that grows on you.

11.2oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shoppe (Marietta, GA). 5.99. 8/2/14 stamped on the bottle cap- I assume a best before date. Served in a Southern Tier snifter.
Pours hazy light orange with a dense, lively, pour-stopping near yellow head. Pillows of lace up top, finer lacing towards the bottom.
Very different nose. Hop coffee? Seemingly equal parts piney hops and roasted coffee. Unique.
As in the aroma, the taste is a balanced blend of hops & coffee. Cheap coffee (but it really works), pine, cut grass, mild citrus and wood. Nice blend overall and really hides the over 10% abv well.
Medium feel with moderate carbonation. A long coffe hop bitter aftertaste.
A truly unique imperial IPA experience. A great blend of flavors without going over the top. I'd recommend trying it at least once.

Very complex, amazing beer. On first smell I thought sawdust that turned into espresso... a dusty espresso? The color is a light caramel that caught me off-guard, being that it’s an espresso beer. I really loved this beer, it reminded me of reading a really old book (in the smell) and sipping an espresso. The flavor of the beer hung-out with you for a while, but flavors got more complex the longer it hung out in the back of your mouth. I noticed some notes of dried plum through the complex flavors. The body and mouth feel were perfectly matched with the flavor tones. This beer felt like an 8.6% to me. Loved this beer!

This beer pours a medium bodied, very cloudy, dark dirty orange n color with a one finger, very soapy beige head. It's not the best looking beer in the world. Luckily the nose is as promised. There is plenty of coffee bean, sweet malt, citrusy hops, soap, and mild hop bitterness. I really dig it. The flavors are both complex and interesting. There is the coffee up front but still plenty of citrusy hop character and a moderately sweet malt backbone. There is a decent amount of sugar in this DIPA. The coffee hides it pretty well though and makes the alcohol content unnoticeable. I really appreciate the coffee being the primary aspect of the after taste. It drinks full in body for a DIPA with residual sugar but doesn't really drink like most of the style. It's kind of chewy. Overall this was a really nice beer. I didn't know what to expect from this Mikkeller/To Ol collaboration but it really impressed me. Tis beer is definitely worth a try.

I never imagined this beer would ever exist – a coffee DIPA? As crazy as it sounds, I am really excited to try this one out.
A: Looks more like a DIPA mixed with coffee than a DIPA with coffee flavor, pouring a dark amber-orange with a dirty brown haze. Reminds me of dull carrot juice. The head is just as unique: it starts as a foamy two fingers, tan and creamy. And as the bubbles pop, the texture beings to look like cappuccino cream; it collapses in a churning, thickening manner. It seriously reminds me of coffee, which is a great thing for this beer.
S: Now that’s an odd mix of scents; there’s a huge blast of fresh-ground coffee at the start, though without the strong roast scents that are normal for coffee stouts. This is more of a strong cinnamon, bitterness, mineral, and acidic fruit, sort of like you would get from a dried out coffee-filter. It’s different, as expected. Hops are barely apparent, but you can make out a faint oil aroma of pine. A layer of malt shows a chocolate, roast, and caramel syrup with an herbal note of unanticipated anise; not too thick, though, giving this a bit of a thin profile under the initial coffee.
T: Rich, flavorful – its malt backbone is a bold, caramel-heavy thickness, a familiar DIPA taste. Toffee and maple make up even more syrupy sweetness, with a dedicated taste of toasted malt underneath. The bitters are lively and complex: iced coffee, thick, sticky pine, citrus rind, and an espresso bean kick. Delicious. Any fan of Stone’s black IPAs would enjoy this palate: I’m getting thick, chewy tastes of licorice and malty darkness, tobacco and fig. The aftertaste is incredibly earthy – coffee with sugar, walnut, mineral water, and vanilla – with a lasting sting of peppery American hops. Impressive!
M: This is the only place you feel the alcohol presence, drying as it builds a strong coating effect. The hops pepper the feel with intensity, balanced nicely with the warmth of the booze and the chewy grain presence. Much more drinkable than a coffee stout, but with all the boldness of a DIPA.
O: A pleasant surprise, most definitely. While the bottle was pretty expensive, it was a worthwhile investment; I may even pick a few up to age, just to see how much of the American DIPA character comes out from underneath the darkness of the coffee. The perfect morning alternative to a cup of Joe…just make sure you don’t have anywhere to be, because the 10.5% alcohol will knock you out.
