It appears shockingly normal! A 14% "bright ale" that looks like an everyday IPA. It's orange and opaque; clear-looking, but you can't see through it! Fizz and all is good. The smell is sorta weird: definitely DON'T get hops in the nose from this hop-lookin' brew. A little lemon, but definitely some solventy, chemically, alcoholic aromas to it. It smells like the 100% attenuation experiment it is.

The taste is as the nose suggests in that it's a strong, medicinal lemon ball of a beer. The mouthfeel is a zingy (lemon) yet strong experience. It's a paradox in that it IS thin (less dense than water?) while it TASTES thick. It's definitely a novelty brew...but aren't they all these days? At $7 for a 14%er, I'd say its an agreeable encounter.

11.2oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Hazy light-orange/light-brown with a one-finger head
S: Orange, a bit of bubblegum, spice, booze and lemon
T: Booze first and foremost, some orange cleaner, lemon zest, honey and herbs
M: Full-bodied with a light carbonation and a bit of alcohol heat
O: While I wouldn't get it again it's a unique beer and for that reason I'm glad I tried it

10oz glass at the Underground. Good god, but I've been waiting all year for this nascent beer pub to finally, and verily release this particular offering to we plebian sorts.

This beer appears a clear, pale golden yellow colour, with one finger of loosely foamy, and actually rather creamy eggshell white head, which leaves some nice sheer painted lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of pungent orange liqueur, pine resin, lemon floor cleanser, sweetly floral perfume, and some further independent fruity alcohol. The taste is more citrus cream doctored with vodka, grapefruit and lime rind, lemon drops, wet bready pale malt, and more earthy floral, and well perfumed hops.

The carbonation is quite light, but supportive enough, the body an adequate medium weight, and rather sugary in its smoothness, the alcohol informing here as well. It finishes on the sweet side, the fruitiness, malt, and booze all large and in charge.

A big (if not in gravity, I don't know how that works) strong ale, the perfumed essence going a long way in masking the ABV. Glad I sipped this slowly while enjoying the Monday night steak special, for once.

Light straw yellow complexion gives the appearance of an American Adjunct or Malt Liqour with a huge billowing cloud of loosely knit bubbles for a head.

The scent is diverse but unfortunately some of these scents went to off putting. The aroma opens with an aromatic hair spray, the off putting, sweet grainy malt, alcohol and then ends with a fruity lemon and citrus.

The flavor is sharp with alcohol but settles into a rice flavor. The mix gives one the taste of sake as it ends with a fruity peach flavor. The end really saves this from being below okay.

The feel was sharp with alcohol as was the taste but then ended relatively easy.

In some respects this should be viewed as a novelty and not a beer to be judged in a contest but that said I failed to find this worthy of a second try.

Incredibly ballsy, the collaborative efforts of Mikkeller and ToOl has lead me to be convinced that both have lost their damn minds. The "lightest beer in the world" at fourteen percent alcohol is both an incredible and ridiculous notion- like craft-brewed malt liquor or "impeiral" light beer. But what they have accomplishes is the lightest beer at this strength that I have come across.

Pale straw in color, the beer is partly fizzy, partly frothy as its foam structures build on top like champagne and collapses just the same. With no real attempt at head retention or lacing- the ale is actually succeeding at its attempt, as its lack of substance has sorely impeded its foam character.

Spicy aromas of grain sweetness and alcohol are highly Saki-like. A whole lotta nothin' causes its scent to be thinly of "Karo-type" corn syrup, spicy vodka and chardonnay- equipped with sulfury white grape and green apple character. Peppercorn, hay and husk aromas shine a light on balance but in the most rustic and raw attempts.

Flavors definately shift from any malt character to all graininess. Its a quite empty taste as if adjunct cereal grains take command of the taste buds with a light anorexic sweetness of candy sugar. Its champagne-like finish is fruity, spicy and again, saki-like.

Just as ugly in mouthfeel as it is in taste, the beer does coat the mouth with residual sweetness and vodka-like alcohol. Its heated prickle and numbing texture has little balance outside of a peppery hop dryness.

There's simply not enough beer-like characteristics to assess one way or another- its simply a malt liquor that's hiding in craft beer clothing.

Draft offering at the Batdorf served in a short sort of pub/pils glass. The brew appears a pale golden copper color with a thin white film. Some spotty lace sticks to the glass along with clear legs of lacing effect.

The aroma starts off with some abrupt perfume-like alcohol. Some citrus zest, orange and solvent booze with almost a vinous aspect that creeps out as it warms. While I have never had this brew before, it has a strange familiarity about it.

The taste is bitter and rindy with a huge alcohol feel that numbs the tongue. Some orange or lemon zest quality with an herbal hop feel that borders on feeling tropical yet medicinal at the same time. Strange that while really boozy, it maintains a feel about it that makes me keep coming back for more.

This is a medium to lighter bodied brew with a light level of carbonation that keeps things uplifting. It is boozy to say the least but strangely familiar and enjoyable. I dont really understand the concept here...lightest beer in the world? At 14% it sure isnt light in potency. The cooper coloring sure isnt the lightest. The mouthfeel, while light could be lighter. Whatever, its an enjoyable boozy sipper despite the name being a fail.

11.2 ounce bottle poured into snifter

Pours a hazy orangish yellow with a tiny white head. Smell is tropical fruit, Belgian yeast, a little booze and a little sourness. Taste is hard to describe I get some citrus, a little hop bitterness, some booze and slight sour taste. Medium bodied with lower amount of carbonation. Overall it is interesting beer.
