330ml bottle poured into tulip 24/7/14

A looks murky orange juice, enough clarity to see a couple streams of tiny bubbles going up the side, a dense finger of light tan foam has great retention and leaves several pencil thin rings

S massive tropical nose, sweet orange, passion fruit, peaches, mango, and pine apple, smells juicy, just a little cereal, caramel, and spruce but for the most part its a complete hop runaway

T not quite what I was expecting after the nose, the fruits faded, and I get some bubblegum off all things, lemon and slightly more caramel with some booze I wasn't picking up on the nose, tastes good but a big step back from the nose

M lighter side of medium, a little light for a big IPA but I don't mind, a little grit and heat on the way down

O I though I was in for something special after the nose but it didn't really follow through at that level, I did enjoy it but the nose was easily the highlight

I'm not picking up on the Proef yeast that I find rather distinct most of the time but that's neither good or bad. This bottle has a few months on it already and its a hop bomb, this would've been a palate wrecker fresh

Look: Pours with huge, off-white (orange hue), thick rocky head. Very slow retention, mostly lasting. Lots of good sticky lacing. Cloudy yellow, amber hue color, visible particles, low carbonation. Quite sexy.

Smell: Best trait of this beer. Passion fruit and tropical (mango, pineapple) the most dominant. Also lots of grapefruit, citrus, tangerine, orange, zest, pine, floral hop freshness. Sweetness (light caramelish, fruity). Basically very fruity, rich and complex. Well done.

Taste: Grapefruit, citrus zest, pine dominate. Tropical part is now a bit more subtle, but there is still combined with sweetness this yummy fresh candy effect. Light/medium sweet caramelish middle and ends with heavy bitterness. Bitterness with a hint of sweetness lasts for quite a while. Also a light floral spike just before you swallow.

Mouthfeel: well built medium body with some tingling dryness. Alcohol very well hidden.

Overall: Surprised. A well crafted imperial IPA, very fun, rich and complex smell that translates good into taste. Will buy a few more when I get the chance.

And its with a plethora of fruit flavor that leads this highly creative ale- rooted in the American IPA style, its taste and flavor prefers the fruitier "late-stage" hops over that of the deeply bittered IPAs of yesterday.

Its appearance is hazy, honey-amber as the beer floats a creamy bone-white foam. Its long lasting creaminess trails with broken rings of lace that denote each sip. Its simply a strong looking beer that might be mistaken for orange juice.

Its strong aromatic presence is partly citrusy, partly tropical and partly wine-like as its floral bouquet opens up with notions of honey suckle as the scent of oranges, red grapefruit, pineapple, mangoes, apricots, juniper, white grape and passion fruit all play a part in its complex appetizing effects. Lightly grassy with a zesty lemon character ensures a crisp and clean cilantro effect heading into taste.

Opening with a fruit juice-type flavor, the tart and zesty taste of orange juice, grapefruit juice and tropical fruit juice all come out to play. But with the firm underpinning of lightly bready and powdered malt taste, the fruit locks onto the grain with confidence, just as the hops gain control. The beer's stride hits with all the tropical, citrus, orchard and vine-ripened fruits with a juicy and fresh bitter-sweet taste Nearly teeth-grinding, its "Sweetheart" flavor is as irresistible as it is irritating.

Medium-light on the mouth, the beer's arid and at times, creamy carbonation leads to a fleeting sweet, arid dry citrus-type bitterness and seems to hide the alcohol very well even at near-10% abv. Sneakingly warm as it closes, an aftertaste of citrus, wine, and pine meld seamlessly into the next sip.

A: dirty yellow tending towards amber and hazy with thin head and mild lacing
S: initial smell was fantastically floral citrus (orange), but dissipated (perhaps due to improper glass for IPA)

T: maltiness to begin with some fruitiness of prune to raisin and some lemon notes. Fades into an earthy taste, but gradually and nicely. Ends with a little grass, but again, subtlety is the key to this beer.
M: even the dryness on the tongue is subtle, and lightly lingers

O: what one might expect from a foreign brewer doing American IPA (ok-what I might expect). The balance of flavors and transition between them are not do in-your-face, which can be refreshing now and then.

330ml bottle purchased from Slowbeer in Melbourne.

Pours a rather pale golden colour, with a solid haze and an even more solid head, forming a firm persistent crown of white froth. Some streaky lace is left behind. Body is quite fluid, and the carbonation isn't particularly noticeable in the glass even when tilted and swirled. Overall, though, it looks pretty good.

Nose is clean with hops for the most part, rounded with stonefruit characters and a suggestion of citrus. There's a faint carbonic and cardboard character that comes through a little bit, but not a lot, and it doesn't really harm the beer beside potentially muting the hops a little. It's a robust nose, but not really close to stupid.

Taste is also far from being stupid, but with a definite kick of resiny hops on the back that bends almost into a minty freshness in the finish. Front is more rounded, with peachskin and a decent malt presence to take up the weight. Finish has a slight medicinal bite to it, while the malt stays long enough to ensure length on the palate. It's pleasant.

Feel is also good: a decent balance to the rest of the characters.

This is probably a little bit old: I can imagine that were I to drink it fresh from the brewery it would indeed be Dangerously Close To Stupid—all of the marks of big hop characters are there. Until that day though, I'm perfectly happy to drink this mellower and more integrated version: it's a mark of quality that it's as good as this even when the hops have somewhat dropped out.
