From 01/12/13 notes. Picked up a bottle of this at Whole Foods last week. 22 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

a - Pours a dark brown color with one inch of dark tan head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks very nice.

s - Smells of smokey malts, dark chocolate, roasted malts, clay, toasted malts, burnt malts, and nuts. Smokier than I expected but prety nice nose as the chocolate does come through as well.

t - Tastes of smoked malts, dark chocolate, bitter hops and chocolate, roasted malts, burnt malts, peat, and light coffee. Follows the nose pretty closely but less chocolate. Smoke kind of dominates.

m - Medium to full body and moderate carbonation. Smooth and not hot, nice mouthfeel.

o - Overall a nice smoked stout, though the smoke dominates and makes it a little one dimensional. Good but personally I like their other stouts much better so would go for one of those next time. Might like this better if you love smoked stouts.

Pours pitch black color with a cascading release of tan bubbles like a Guinness that rush up to a 1 finger creamy/foamy tan head that faded slowly and left really good lacing coating the sides as it slid back down into the brew and settled into a creamy layer on top with spotty lacing remaining on the sides.

Smells like chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee beans, roasted malt/grains, burnt wood, lemon zest or light citrus hops, caramel and light vanilla; the smoky and chocolate notes dominate, and there is no hint of the ABV. Smells like a milk stout due to the strong chocolate notes, but to me it was nice with enough malty complexity to make it enjoyable as the snifter rose towards my face.

Flavor follows suit and like the nose smells like chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee beans, roasted malt/grains, burnt wood, lemon zest, citrus hops, caramel, light vanilla and booze; the smoky and chocolate notes still dominate, but there is more bitterness in the flavor like hops and/or coffee like a Starbucks were poured in the mix. There is no hint of the ABV, but the chestnuts listed on the bottle do show up and dance around like a drunk freshmen at a fall pledge party. Strong chocolate notes, roasted or smoked grains and coffee bitterness finish off each sip, but it was enjoyable and very flavorful getting better as it warmed.

Mouthfeel is thick and chewy, like a dense old brew that would move like syrup, with very mild carbonation, a slick and almost watery feel across the tongue and a roasted, bitter aftertaste that is a combo of cocoa, coffee, citrus and burnt grains – this leaves a similar taste that mirrors finishing a Starbucks bold in the morning, so today I started and ended my day with the same great taste.

Overall I really liked this stout, which was dynamic with bold robust flavors that hid the alcohol and yet provided a buzz; this is a great dessert beer, and at $6.99/bottle it was a bargain and worth seeking out. I like what Evil Twin is pushing and will grab some more of their beers as this and Even More Jesus were excellent stouts.

Bottle into pfriem tulip - purchased bottle at whole foods port chester, ny for $10.
Nice thick oily black pour with deep tan head. Huuge chocolate and roasted malt aroma - nice English yeast maybe?
Taste is smooth roasty chocolate - its a big brew but super smooth. Yup, another great big stout from Jeppe this time on a great collab with a fantastic chocolatier!

At first sip, you know this is more than just another chocolate stout. Smoked chestnuts and roasted coffee give this beer some nice depth and does a great job balancing any possible sweetness. The chocolate rounds out your palate and gives you this reassuring warm cozy feeling that everything's going to be ok...
However, as you work your way through the glass, the chocolate notes die down and the smoke rises. Better classified as a smoked stout with traces of chocolate than a chocolate stout with notes of smoked chestnuts.
Nevertheless, another great brew from Evil Twin.

A dark Thick brown head that hangs for a minute, then fades to a ring. Not much lacing but a thin syrupy coating on the sides. Nose is reminiscent of Brooklyn BCS with a bit less alcohol. Heavy chocolate, coffee, roasted grains and slight char. Trace sweet alcohol and burnt sugar. Taste is great. Rich full roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Roasted chestnuts adds nutty smoothness. An english ale yeast I'm guessing by the fruitiness. A bit of plum and fig. Firm bitterness gives a solid finish leaving coffee and earth. Feel is full, velvety and smooth with just the right amount of chew. Goes down way to easy and is supple through the swallow. A great beer for fans of the style. while not a standout it is great with chocolate cake and I would guess softer cheeses, all the usual suspects. Yum

Got a growler at the TriBeCa whole foods. They listed this at 8% strong. Pours with a deep brown head that doesn't last for very long. Not much in the way of scent. Flavors are deep and smoky. Nothing is very over the top or stunning about the beer but I'm enjoying my glass. 85% cocoa chocolate bar, not a prissy milk chocolate. Mouthfeel is a touch thin. Lingering bitterness on the palate. A bit of a smooth, creamy feel pulses between the bitterness; reminds me of some milk stouts in that way.
My first crack at an Evil Twin brew. I look forward to more.

The beer comes in a dark black color with some brown.

The aroma has a bacony smoked malt with some chocolate as well.

The flavor follows with that smoked malt of camp fire and bacon. There is a melding of milk and bittersweet chocolate throughout from the middle on. A slight bit of sweetness and hazelnut nuttiness and then a bright fruity coffee on the finish.

A decent full motuhfeel on this.

A decent beer for those who aren't really into smoked beers. The chocolate dances well with the smoked malt. A well made smoked stout.
