American Double / Imperial Stout |  17.20% ABV

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes/Commercial Description:
This is a really big beer and we wanted to put it in small bottles, but the two bozos were so fat they couldn’t fit on the label. Enjoy this rich, ridiculous and screwball-ish Imperial Stout with hints of: molasses, lactose, chocolate, almond, hazelnut, vanilla bean, cinnamon, oak spiral, chili, marshmallow, muscovado sugar, chesnut and coffee. Made for Bozos.

22oz (!) bottle poured into big snifter; one of the darkest beers I've ever seen. Minimal dark brown head that fades quickly into a solid ring of foam.
Smells...wow. Espresso, and GOOD espresso too. The kind that has some savory qualities to it. Also detect some chili pepper, spice, molasses, and oak.
Taste is HUGE; espresso, dark chocolate, molasses, oak, chili, vanilla spice, dark malt. Really coats your whole mouth, not much booze present which is a bit terrifying considering I'm working with 22oz of 17+% beer.
Mouthfeel is huge but not cloying; carbonation staves that off nicely.
Overall, this is an awesome huge stout to end all huge stouts. Up there with WWS and DORIS. Damn good stuff.

Poured into a tulip- pours an extremely viscous black oil color with almost no head and only a few spots of retention.

Smell is not as boozy as I would expect; certainly a lot of roasted malt and a fair bit of coffee, maybe some vanilla. It definitely smells like a heavy hitter though if not in direct booziness.

Hides it's alcohol very well. Lots of roasted malt, coffee, some molasses,a little vanilla, and something a little sweet towards the end. Not sure if the list on the side of the bottle is things they put in it or things they taste and what they put in is a mystery.

Mouthfeel is nice- obviously full bodied with a little carbonation; definitely enough to cut through all the malt. I like this beer- get it if the big bad stout is your kinda thing and if not don't because it's serious.

Served from bottle in to a Green Man snifter. Poured pitch black with a half finger brown head that remained throughout the glass. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, coffee, caramel, and dark fruit. The flavor was of sweet malt, coffee, dark fruit, caramel, roasted malt, alcohol, milk chocolate, and alcohol (yes I said it twice). It had a heavy feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a good brew. There was really a lot going on in this one. On the nose this was quite delightful. Tons of chocolate and toasty goodness going on. The flavor however as you would expect with the high abv would bring the booze. And boy did it ever... This did mellow out as the beer warmed but it never really took the backseat to allow other notes to shine. I could definitely find myself getting wasted on this one quite easy. Definitely worth your time to try this one if you like big boozy stouts!

A: black oil ink, finger of mocha head after a center-pour into a snifter. Oily sheen and some motes of lace trailed behind the beer.

S: a very exotic aroma - reminded me a bit of Beer Geek Brunch Weasel's civet coffee smell - dank and musky along with thick syrupy dark cocoa aromas and roasted malt. Herbal and earthy sweet molasses

T: the label throws a lot of ingredient descriptors at you, and I'm gonna have to say they're all there in some capacity, but it could well be my imagination taking me there, having read the label before drinking the beer. This is from the label (but not in the same order): oak spiral, molasses, chili, lactose, chocolate, almond, hazelnut, chestnut, vanilla bean, cinnamon, muscovado sugar, marshmallow, and coffee. ...Quite a lot to shoulder.
This was a great-tasting stout - rich and dense and not-quite-boozy, with a very rarified and exotic character. Chocolate, coffee, and molasses, and vanilla bean flavors are all present. Nuttiness, chewiness, and even a little chili heat on the finish. Herbal and hard-to-single-out impressions throughout the drinking.

M: Very dense and creamy, silky and almost silty velvet density; slight tingle of heat on the back-end; has an almost barrel-aged character - possessing some lightening effects despite a very solid and robust body; feel reminded me of Avery's Uncle Jacob's Stout in some ways

O: fans of rich Imperial stouts - with a proportionately high abv in this case - are gonna love this beer. It has enough going on to engage anyone's palate, with a decadent double stout heaviness, sweetness, and complexity.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew snifter. Pours pitch black, completely opaque in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates quickly to a light ring around the glass, leaving light lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, nuts, mild hot spiciness, hints of booze. Flavor is sweet dark malt, dark chocolate, vanilla, a nice, but mild red pepper spiciness, espresso coffee, flavor builds into the finish with more rich coffee, chocolate, mild hot pepper and a hint of char from toasted malt. Medium to heavy bodied with a thick mouth feel. A very nice complex stout that starts surprisingly mild chocolate and coffee, but develops other flavors throughout the taste, finishing in a very nicely balanced semi-sweet, mildly spicy and charred, chocolate and vanilla maltiness. ABV dangerously covered. I can't believe this is over 17%. It's almost a full time job drinking it slowly enough to have something to sip for the evening. Superb and flavorful. I'm impressed with the peppers in this; they are obvious in every taste, but do not intrude into the other flavors, almost perfectly spiced. I hope like hell they release this again in smaller bottles. This is too big a monster and too tasty for a 22 oz.
