From tasting notes. A: Hazy gold under a 1” pure white foam collar that hugs the dies of the glass marking each drink with a line of lace.
S: Orange peel, spice, light malts.
T: Light malts, citrus, spice, touch bitter on the end
F: Medium light body, above average carbonation, creamy yet crisp.
O: A Belgian blond with character and flavor.

Served from bottle into a Westbrook snifter (it was brewed there after all). Poured a vibrant yellow-orange with a minimal white head that remained throughout. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, wheat, floral, spices, and earth. The flavor was of sweet malt, wheat, fruit, floral, spice, and earth. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. The nose on this was actually not too bad. I really wish it would have brought a little complexity to the plate as it left me hanging. The flavor was a little more on the one-sided flavor side. There was mainly a big earthy tone and the spices that were advertised kind of took a back seat in this one. Not a bad brew but definitely not a top contender for the best of the style.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a hazy light to medium golden amber with fine one finger white head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of bready malt, coriander, clove, mild saison yeast, slightly vegetal. Flavor begins with light sweet malt, light fruit, saison yeast and quickly develops more intense Belgian spicing and mild yeast funkiness, finishing with a dryer saison spiciness and bitterness. Nice light creaminess to the body, more than expected from a saison style. Interesting hybrid between saison and Belgian styles; body and initial fruit flavors lean towards a Belgian pale, but a saison yeast character develops quickly and finishes this ale. I liked both the initial lighter taste and final peppery spiciness and the flavor transition. Not easy to categorize, but refreshing and tasty. Nice mouth feel.

A: The beer is relatively clear pale yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that quickly died down, leaving delicate lacing on the surface and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of peppercorns are present in the nose along with notes of Belgian yeast.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell, except that the peppercorns are especially prominent in the finish and provide a moderately strong amount of spiciness that lingers through the aftertaste. Slight hints of funk also become apparent once the beer begins to warm up.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The peppercorns make your tongue tingle a little bit.
O: The one thing that stands out about this beer is that the finish and aftertaste deliver a big bite from the peppercorns. You need to let this beer warm up a bit so some of the funkiness from the Brettanomyces yeast comes out, otherwise you may think it's a one dimensional peppery beer.

10oz beer on tap at the Meadowlark Restaurant in Kettering, OH.

Appearance: Hazy golden-orange, with a dense white head. The head died back to a thin layer across the top and lots of small persistent strands and dots of lacing.

Smell: Belgian yeast, herbal/leafy hops, and definitely some ground pepper.

Taste: Some nice malt sweetness balanced by fruity esters from the Belgian style yeast. Herbal/leafy bitter hops at the middle and finish, and distinct taste of ground peppercorns at the finish.

Mouthfeel: Just right carbonation, very smooth.

Overall / drinkability: Overall, the flavor profile on this one is quite nice, with the balance between sweet and bitter/savory flavors titled towards the bitter and savory. The pepper and hop profile works really quite well. This went very well with a Vietnamese chicken salad. Drinkability is dangerous. I could easily have had another glass but I had to work after lunch so I abstained. I'll have to seek this out again.

Not bad for a belgian ale. At the first sip, it's a bit overwhelmingly spicy. Lots of corriander, and peppers up front. It does mellow out as you drink more. The reason why i give it a lower than average rating is because it is very overcarbonated. It overpoured with foam as soon as i opened it

From draft, a bright straw color with a nice head and lacing.

Smells of belgian yeast, spice, pepper

Tastes of pepper, slight clove, a slight bready malt

Strong carbonation, light body, very drinkable.

Overall, nice easy drinking Belgian pale, nothing stands out but very well made

Pours a hazy, golden color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of slight floral, slight citrus, hint of spice, hint of wheat, hint of hops, and hint of sourness. Fits the style of a Belgian Pale Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is also a noticeable tartness. Tastes of earthy malt, sweet malt, hint of grass, slight hop, hint of spices, and a hint of pale malt. Overall, good appearance and decent blend, but the body is overly malty and not great.

Joey Pepper... a sarcastically celebratory name for that guy you know that does everything in life with a little too much zeal. Perhaps this beer is an allegorical reflection of that man. Peppered beers are always ambitious. A peppered Belgian Pale Ale?... that's downright deranged! True to form, it erupted the second it was opened, with foam spilling over the top. It was as if the bottle couldn't contain it's excitement to share its crazy contents. The pour produced a massive styrofoam-like head that receded slowly, leaving some sexy lacing on the New Belgium glass. The appearance is as murky as it gets, with an opaque chicken broth color and tangerine accents. Jalapeno's and vinegar in the nose, with some Belgian yeast and orange rind citrus. A nice sour, tart aroma with a little pale malt complexity. There's an underlying wit flavor, reminiscent of Allagash White. That's a good thing! Mild pepper taste in the front, with lemongrass graininess and a zesty citrus bite in the finish. The clove spice adds another dimension of pepper-like punch. The mouthfeel is a little on the thin side, a surprising revelation for the relatively high gravity and hearty appearance. Very easy to gulp, and I took full advantage of that. Sadly, there is very little heat to this beer. The flavors translated well, but without appreciable warmth, it was significantly tamer than expected. Perhaps I should scale back my expectations, having enjoyed Coast's Ghost Pepper Ale at Charleston's 2014 Brewvival. Now that beer will torch your palate in all the right ways! Regardless, the flavors mesh well, producing a classic unfiltered Belgian wheat ale, with just a touch of jalapeno heat, aroma and taste. Not sure that this is the beer to evoke unbridled excitement, but it was definitely ambitious, and well executed. Too bad it's retired, I'd enjoy this again. Props to my man Strange, the Hungry Hippo. Much appreciated!

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy bright gold color with a 2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, pear, banana, bubblegum, peppercorn, coriander, clove, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, bread, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spice, and pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemon, pear, banana, bubblegum, peppercorn, coriander, clove, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, bread, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of peppercorn/yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, banana, bubblegum, peppercorn, coriander, clove, wheat, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast, spice, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian blonde style. All around good complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spice, and pale malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Got it as a Christmas gift; consumed on 12/28/13. First full review here on BA, so I believe this new release is quite fresh.

A: Poured from the bottle into a Duvel tulip. Body is hazy golden with a small white head.

S: Florally and spicy over bready malt. Cloves and banana are in the house.

T: First impression: it's surprisingly "clean" giving the yeasty nose. After a couple sips, however, I get more of the funkier, yeasty flavors. Foundation of bread doughy malt. Clove and generic spice follows. Finishes fairly clean with lingering spicy-ness and a touch of lemony bitterness and floral hops. Heat is felt in belly, though the 7% ABV is not noted on the palate at all.

M: Medium in heft, carbonation is modest and fine.

O: A good version of a Belgian Pale Ale.

Pours just like u want ur Belgium pale to pour like a dirty blonde hue with a tight creamy capped two finger head that just doesn't want to go and lacing wherever it touches and yeah if she was a girl I'd want to know a lot more about her,the smell is true to style yet there's something in there that reminds you it's Evil Twin not some Belgian farmhouse and described in three lines it's Belgian spicy yeast,fruity punchy hops and bready biscuity malts,the mouthfeel is between medium and full with above moderate carbonation which could maybe ease a Little bit but it's still creamy with the biscuity sweet malts,spicy pepper and fruity punchy hops really taming the expected usual over the top remnants of that well known Belgian yeast and overall another great example of balance and less is more,unfortunately the price puts this out of the league where it belongs but if you can grab cheap it's the perfect table beer with a little extra oomph that puts the B in balance cheers.

Poured into a Tallgrass Brewing tulip glass.

A: Pours a nice finger of white head with a pale golden body. Good head retention and lacing.
S: Floral Belgian yeast: cloves, bubblegum, and bananas. Earthy, musty grains. Almost banana breadish.
T: More of the sweet and spicy Belgian yeast up front with a doughy malty in the middle. Kind of bitter with a medicinal finish.
M: Medium with a bit of prickly carbonation. I expected a lighter mouthfeel and more carbonation for the style, though.
Drinkability/Overall: A decent enough Belgian Pale Ale but I expected more given the parties involved. As it warmed a little bit of Brett type earthyness came out which I liked, but overall it was just a sweet BPA. A livelier carbonation and a less phenolic yeast with more brett might have made this more interesting.

Cheers to my buddy Joey, a generous guy, kind soul, and beer enthusiast. I did a double take and a WTF when I first saw this beer.

The beer is pale yellow, nearly clear, with just a slight haze. Effervescence rising rapidly from the depths of the snifter. Half inch of pure white head with soapy lacing in its wake.

The aroma offers Saaz hops, coriander, Belgian yeast, lemons, lemongrass, hay.

Lovely flavor. Mild citric tartness. Light fruity sweetness. Floral hops and a bouquet of grass, citrus, yeast, spice.

Moderate bitterness in the finish. Lemon rind with a touch if grapefruit. Medium to full bodied and somewhat palate coating.

Overall, solid. Complex and enjoyable. Nicely done.

i may have liked this one more than others, although i still dont really get it. is it just a saison? or is there something else i am supposed to be picking up on here? joey pepper implies peppers right? well, i certainly dont get any chili, and if i think i am getting peppercorns on my palate, i could easily be confusing the funky and new saison yeast for a real spice addition. hard to say with this hazy yellow beer, almost looks milky, with a tall and thick white head. the nose and taste are time same, more citrusy hops than expected, but not any bitterness at all, its almost sweet in the finish, with a curiously thick texture and minimal dryness for the style. the yeast is light, which is why i am wondering about the peppercorns, maybe its just a name, if there is a weird spice ingredient in here, it is extremely subtle and in the background. carbonation is about right, medium level, and the body is enormous of the style too. overall a slightly confused and confusing beer, but i like the flavors and feel of it pretty well, its just not what any of us expected for a beer named pepper. evil twin makes amazingly high quality beers, but they dont always make sense to me.

A billowing white head on a clear golden body. Lightly spicy yeast with Pilsner malt. Lots and lots of black pepper and other phenolic notes in the flavor, these blend nicely with the bready malt and strongly yeasty notes. A fairly thick body, high carbonation, and a dry finish. Not bad, very distinctly spicy but well done.

The appearance was a nice clear golden yellow when poured carefully. When finishing the bottle, the lees made it extremely cloudy with chunks of yeast debris. Carbonation is about right with a mild film of white head and some glass lacing.

The smell is earthy, phenolic and barnyard funky. Its a smell that you typically get from brett beers, so I am thinking this beer has some brett added, but the mouth-feel tells me that there may have been some brew magic going on with this beer.

The taste is complex with phenolics, hop bitterness, pepper, citrus and the subtle barnyard funk. Its slightly sweet, but well balanced overall. This is a very complex and rather good tasting ale.

The mouth-feel is more full-bodied than the typical variety of Belgian beers. If brett was used in the fermentation process, you would expect less mouth-feel, put there seems to be plenty of maltodextrins left in this one. Maybe they mixed a high FG batch with a brett batch, hence the brew magic? Anyway, seems very well executed with the higher mouth-feel and brett-like character.
