Edit: Just noticed this hasn't been brewed in a while which may explain the pineapple husk and gritty hops flavors. Still avoid it if you can!

Good to see decent reviews on this one mostly seen it was a high gravity pills but didn't quite notice the pepper both not my favorites.
A - Pretty much the darkest pilsner I ever seen hazy deep amber orange with just a 1/4 inch of froth that settles to a slow ring.
S - Not getting really any pepper in the nose mostly lime gose kind of thing going with just a bit of grainy pilsner malts.
T - Grainy peppery heat biscuit and some pineapple husk leading to lime bitterness. Kind of bile tasting body is quite smooth but pilsner grainy flavor makes it hard to drink.
M - Medium bodied smooth with no biting ethanol.

Overall one of the most off beers I have had the pleasure of buying worst part it wasn't just in a can I ended up with 22 ounces of this beast paying much more than I should have. Please don't get this just get any other Evil Twin beer instead!

I gotta say, despite some of their beer's occasional spendiness, I am REALLY enamored of Evil Twin & especially since they are mostly CANned these days! This one had been on the shelf at the Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS) for a while, but I wanted to see if a couple of pepperheads who are fellow members of the FGBS Drinking Team would snatch it up. I finally pulled the trigger on my own. Sorry. Between the ABV & the addition of peppers, this should not only have held up nicely, but it should bring the kick of a MO mule after so much aging. Let's see.

From the Bottle: "Spicy, sweet and sour - this beer was inspired by a rad barman's ancho chili, pineapple and lime accented cocktail pairing for the iconic pork and pineapple taco served across the street. A provocative pilsner; feel free to drop a dime (vintage phone booth style) on it. A little good natured defiance of the bar's cheeky name is part of the plan for this roguish collaboration."

A bomber from long ago, surfacing from the depths! I feel like an archeologist. I Pop!ped the cap & started a slow, gentle, C-Line pour since I had no idea what to expect. It foamed up, as expected (whoops!), forming a beautiful two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with relatively good retention. I must be frank, given its age, I was not holding my breath. Nose was fabulous! The pineapple & lime had totes held their own in the face of the pepper & it smelled like EXACTLY the sort of beer that I would take to Tony Wang's Chinese Restaurant for an accompaniment to his BYOB meals. Yum. Is it appropriate to say that a beer's nose is "savory"? This simply set my mouth to watering, as though I were anticipating the arrival of Pepper Beef or Szechuan Beef. Now, I am f**king starving! Hello, GrubHub! Color was a slightly hazy (sorry, I did the best that I could) Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Mouthfeel was big & full, amazing for even an Imperial Pilsner! The flavors were really bright with the pineapple & lime really asserting themselves after so long with a tempered heat lying underneath. Lying underneath in wait, like a f**king cat after a mouse! Finish was expansively hot, like geometrically hot. There is mathematically hot, by degrees, and then there is geometrically hot, by exponents! PHEW! The sweat began to pour off of my balding pate as my tongue tried to curl up and hide while my sinuses experienced a backdraft with every inhalation. HOT?!? OMFG! It probably was not this intense young, but now, it was a seething, angry dragon of a beer.

There is modern thought that dragons are female, although it begs the question of reproduction. I had a female student who doodled dragons & garnered the sobriquet "The Dragon Lady" as a result. She was both flattered & nonplussed & especially when I turned her onto Milt Caniff's "Terry & the Pirates". She really embraced the idea of "The Dragon Lady" after that! I guess that there was a reason for my reputation.

Back to this gem. As I grew accustomed to breathing smoke, sulfur & flame through my nostrils, the pineapple made a welcome comeback on the finish. Wow! It lent a soothing sweet-ish fruitiness to the conflagration that continued to rage, unabated, now in my stomach. Heck, I could trace the length of my esophagus with my R index finger while drinking this bad girl. Again, not to be sexist, but thinking that dragons are female. Well, good, I'm almost halfway through …

ONLY HALFWAY THROUGH?!? 8=( I shoulda had company over for this!

I really think that this would do better as a Chile Beer, but that's just me.

Finish was super dry in the way that adding spice to alcohol causes. This was a spicy, peppery aged beer that was simply nothing less than a wonderment! As in, I wonder why I drank it. Not really. I am always up for a bit of a challenge, but unlike my brother, I pay for it later. Phew.

Cleaning out the beer frig and found this at the back. From the date of reviews this beer has likely been in the bottle for 2-1/2 years. No dating found on bottle.
Quite attractive clear, pale amber colored body. Tremendous foam generator, which leaves thick strings of lacing on glass.
Aroma of biscuit malt. There are faint traces of lime and pineapple.
Taste is malty, with a vegetal chili addition. The chili adds some "heat". Slightly lemon tart, with a little sweetness from the pineapple.
Thin to medium mouth feel. Kind of dry at the end, even though it is full of carbonation.
Provides a mix of chili heat and sweeter tropical flavors. Quite a different recipe for a pilsner.

L: hazy gold permeated with streams of rapidly rising bubbles under a 1" cream colored foam cap with rair retention.

S: aroma is sweet malt, light toast, a hint of caramel, and a very faint chili aroma.

T: Fruit starts the flavor over light biscuit leading to moderately assertive hop bitterness. The pineapple and lime are detectable but not overwhelming. The heat on the tongue emerges especially in the finish and it is ancho heat - enough to know it is there but not overly challenging. Along with the hop accent, a very slight tartness helps to balance the mild sweetness from the fruit and malt.

F: The beer is creamy, smooth, medium full bodied with medium carbonation. It has very mild alcohol warming and mild chili heat.

O: This is a good beer but there is a really good pilsner behind the ancho chili, pineapple and lime and the beer leaves me wanting that pilsner.

you have to like the ingredients, and you have to like them together, but this is a really impressive and spot on recipe, turning food into beer in a magic way. it literally tastes just like the pork dish, the proportions are perfect. definitely chili and pineapple right away in both smell and taste, and its strong too, with the lime a little more subtle but definitely providing some familiar acidity. its weird how easy drinking this is, its surprising its as strong as it is, not boozy at all, and not even really that sturdy on the grain side of things. no real sign of lager yeast either, but the feel is there, crisp and drier in the end. its juicy pineapple and warm and smoky chili peppers all the way though, with the zesty lime coming on a little later. it really does remind me of the pork dish, perfect tacos. im not sure i would want this with tacos like that though, it almost is better as a substitute than a compliment, but a really impressive mix of unlikely ingredients for beer, and really well pulled off. i could drink a whole bottle of this no problem. definitely weird, but awesomely well done!

I had high hopes for this beer. Good mouthfeel and look but I didn't enjoy the chili and pineapple in it. I'm glad I ordered it but not sure I'd order it again.
