Enjoyed on 8/27. Reviewed from notes.
Label says "Soft DK," but I much prefer the scatological name listed on BA.
Soft Dookie pours a gentle, black color with no carbonation and soapy, brown bubbles on top. When held to the light, the liquid takes on a cola color.
Aroma is sweet and sugary, like black forest cake, coupled with warm alcohol, vanilla, anise and cocoa.
Mmm... Taste is sweet, while still maintaining some subtlety. Vanilla bean, chocolate bar and heavy cream are the stars on this menu, making for a concoction reminiscent of hot chocolate. Flavor is not as pronounced as I'd expect for the type (which I love), since there are a ton of big tastes mingling here. The conclusion is dry, cutting some of the sugar.
Mouth is thinner than expected, which is a good thing, since an Imperial Stout can be so rich that it sinks like a malted milkshake-battered stone in your stomach.
Big boys like this can often be an assault of flavor, but this was refined and the flavors were well displayed. Imagine an Imperial Young's Double Chocolate with vanilla extract and you're in the ballpark.
