On draft at The Railroad...
Appears a pitch black opaque with a small tan head that slowly fades into a gentle cap and collar. Lots of scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of a TON of vanilla, cocoa, caramel, and brown sugar.
Taste is of a flavorful punch of cocoa and vanilla with a hint of maple syrup, espresso, and molasses.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, sweet up front with a bitter and spicy finish. A tad abv is noticed.

Draft at The Farmers' Cabinet in Philadelphia.

Pours pitch black with a one finger mocha head that quickly settles into a lasting ring.  Sporadic spots of lace left behind.

Silky sweet choclate malt aroma with hints of vanilla bean, coffee bean, toffee and caramel.  Nice and roasted but not burnt or acrid smelling.  Like chocolate covered vanilla bean coffee.  Pretty outrageous.

On the fuller end of medium bodied with a nice balance of roasted dark malt, silky choclate and boozy sweetness.  Nice roasted coffee bean bitterness up front countered by the silky sweet chocolate and vanilla bean smoothing things out.  Again, it's roasted but not acrid.  Gourmet coffee beans, chocolate, toffee, caramel, oatmel and vanilla.  Vanilla beans usually aren't very prominet but they really stand out in this beer.  Some booozy heat/sweetness in the finish but overall the abv is nicely masked making it easy to drink.   Really good.

A - Black beer with a bit of a brown head that didn't stick around for very long.

S - A lot of vanilla as well as some chocolate. Reminds me a little bit of a milk stout. A bit of molasses in there as well.

T - Creamy with emphasis on the vanilla and a backbone of chocolate with a touch of molasses. Nothing particularly special something slightly off with it but otherwise fine.

M - Creamy, smooth, moderate carbonation, medium bodied.

O - Not bad, wouldn't complain about drinking this. As far as vanilla stouts go, it gets the job done.

Poured into a tulip. This one pours black with a big creamy dark tan head. It settles pretty quickly and leaves some sparce lace.

The aroma has hints of dark roast coffee with a nice char aroma. A littl ebit of vanilla sweetness rounds this out. Real big roasted malts on the pallet with some coffee tones and a bit of vanilla. A little smoky in the finish.

Real nice full body here with soft carbonation. Somewhat of a silky feel.

Real glad I finally pulled the trigger on this one. Really a well done IS.

500ml bottle into a shaped half-pint; shared with vonschplieffen. Thanks, Drew, for letting me tasty your dookie.

A: Black body under an inch of frothy light-brown head. Ok retention and lacing. Solid.

S: Peanut, chocolate, spicy alcohol, and that's about it. Kinda weird, not great, but not unpleasant. I'm really confused about the peanut notes, but since I like peanuts they weren't really a problem.

T: Follows the nose to a t, but with the addition of some licorice. Bitter, boozy, and a bit underwhelming. No better than average for the style.

M: Creamy medium body; high carbonation. Nice.

O: I liked it for the name and its distinctiveness, but it just wasn't all that tasty. There are too many better stouts out there to justify paying the high price tag for this one.

Pours a deep, rich sable only a whisker or two above black with a thick, foamy, fine-bubbled light tan head that leaves some good lacing. Strong aroma is smoky with tones of semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, caramel and molasses - and, yes, there is a subtle vanilla note as well. Flavor has notes of roast coffee, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and molasses. Smooth texture has above-average body and a fair amount of fizz. This one's a winner, so look for it!

Got this one at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam.

Imperial vanilla stout. New label with a funny looking cartoon guy on the front.

From a 500ml bottle into a snifter.

APPEARANCE: A black and relatively thick pour makes a 2+ finger, medium looking, tan head with great retention. Black body with higher levels of visible carbonation evident. Head eventually fades to a good foam cap and clings to the sides. A splotchy wisp and ring remain until the end leaving some decent lacing down the glass. Good looking stout.

SMELL: Roasted and smoky malts, cocoa and some light sweet cream and vanilla notes. Medium strength nose, and everything blends together very nicely.

TASTE: Roasted malts, sweet cream, cotton candy flavors and vanilla. Lots of carnival candy sweetness on this one. Smoky notes and slight hints of chocolate and cocoa as well. Interesting mixture of flavor. Medium but persistent aftertaste of sweet candy, vanilla, creamy and smoky chocolaty flavors. Pretty interesting and unique, but just needs to be a little bolder for top marks.

PALATE: Medium body and higher levels of carbonation. Relatively light on the palate and a little airy, but still creamy enough. Goes down fine and finishes slightly sticky on the palate. Creamy enough, but definitely needs a little more weight.

OVERALL: Good beer, and definitely the best of the three sampled today. Interesting combination of flavors on this one, and it definitely looks the part. A heavier body and a touch more boldness in the flavor would put this one over the top, but regardless, this is interesting and well worth checking out. Recommended.

On tap at the Brick Store Pub, review from July.

A - Medium thickness, black, with a nice frothy cream colored head. Awesome lace.

S - Light notes of vanilla and chocolate. Very small amount of char, too. Smooth and inviting aroma.

T - Char is pretty big. Semi-sweet chocolate adds some sweetness and a rounder character mid-palate. The finish is bitter.

M - Dry with a bitter finish. The carbonation is apparent enough that I am tasting its strength.

O - Overall a solid beer, the best from Evil Twin to date.

This was my first brew from Evil Twin, but what a nice experience.

A: Jet black with one finger of soft carmel head.

S: Wonderful milk chocolate, brown sugar, light hops, with just a bit of "mustiness".

T: Hoppy, roasted coffee, burnt malt, mild alcohol burn, and a pleasant back-end bitterness.

M: Medium viscosity with a mild bit of harshness.

O: Very good stout but lighter in mouthfeel than I prefer and at ~$16.00 for a pint bottle, a bit pricey.
