A great beer that, IMHO, is miscategorized.

10.5%, chestnut Amber with a light tan head that's got legs, 10% Chardonnay and very vinous (special malt?).

Call it a barley wine!

First off let's look at this brew. Looks nice like some murky iced tea brown body, nice off white head. Time to smell the old girl. She's an aged one comrades, with a simple "Best before 2015". Ok back to the aroma. Huge toffee notes with that burnt sugar aroma. Also some dark fruit characters pull through with a nice touch of French Vanilla in the back ground. Very nice! Now fourth with the flavor! Very fruity and toffee with almost a noble hop floral bite. This brew is very interesting with almost a sour bite yet not enough to make it's self known. It grabs on the sides of the palate. There isn't huge notes of Chardonnay barrel, yet it finishes dry and clean with a lingering toffee, vanilla and subtle hints of fruits in the aftertaste. The feel of the beer is Medium-light smooth body, par carbonation that tickles the tongue instead of abusing it.

Overall: Since I seen that this was a barrel aged DIPA, I thought it was going to be a Vinegar Bomb! Yet it's not. It's more of a BarleyWine/Strong Ale and a damn fine one at that. This brew is 10.5% ABV nicely masked. No booze in the aroma nor taste. I don't know how much of a hop bomb this was at fresh, but age has done this brew wonders. This brew is Recommended!

Bottle from Fonduevoodoo for CanBIF Spring 2014.

A - Pours a deep red, cloudy colour with good carbonation coming up. Three fingers of off white head on top. Good lace spatterings and a film of retention.

S - Super interesting. Grapey, winey, malty, some citrus. Very original. Yeasty as well as woody and some dark fruit. Super cool.

T - Vinous element is definitely there. Not much in the way of DIPA characteristics. Some citrus and serious malt.

M - Good carbonation, medium to full body and a dark fruit/bitter finish.

O/D - This isn't exactly a DIPA. But it's a very curious and creative beer, which i respect. The vinous element really takes hold but plays well with the character of the beer. You also can't detect any alcohol, which is a bonus. All in all, a good experience, and a new way to look at beer.
