Lovely, well made. As good as most IRS.

A: A black beauty. Makes me sleepy thinking bout it, not much lacing.

S: Roasty aroama, black bread, chocolate, mint and pine forest.

T: The roast malt with moist, fruity, black raisin bread with chocolate provide the backbone. This is tempered by the minty, pine forest hops that combine to take this to a great sipping finish.

F: Full bodied with moderate carbonation, sporting a clean, minty, long finish.

O: A must try. Brooklyn gets crafty, a great place to live.

Pitch black with a thin espresso head. Smells like dark chocolate, smoke, roasted malts, cherries. The taste notes include dark chocolate, espresso, roasted malts, cherries, smoke, subtle hints of peated whiskey.

Poured 12 Oz into a tulip glass.
Look: Poured a thick black with a small, thin copper head.
Smell: Overtones of sweet chocolate, dark malts, and a slightly fruity undertone.
Taste. Sweet, smooth, complex, and dark. Tastes of chocolate, roasted coffee, bitter malt, and alcohol.
Feel: Lightly carbonated. Not very dry, quite smooth and refreshing. Easy to drink, but very heavy on the alcohol. Makes you feel warm and fuzzy and loose inside.

Look: Black; big tan head; intense lacing / glass glimmers
Smell: The smell is actually a bit subdued for such a big dark beer. Maybe
a bit of earthiness, along with the more forward vinous grape notes.

Taste: Sweet vinous fruit upfront that forwards into some booze and
bitterness.

Feel: Bit of a peppery booze burn in this one, but aside from the heat,
the mouthfeel is smooth and oily.

Overall: Like most Evil Twin dark brews, a big over the top beer. Slightly
different from ET's Soft Dookie, with perhaps more earthiness and booze
present. A fun / unique tasting beer.

Bought a bottle at the Beer Shop in East Longmeadow. Beer pours with a black appearance with a very thin head around the glass. The aromas include chocolate, coffee, and light dark fruit. Taste includes a generally sweet flavor with flavors that include, but not limited too, mocha espresso and cherries. Good body for this drink; really creamy with a light carbonation. Overall, pretty good flavors to this drink.

Bottled 10/23/13

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. The aroma is sweet roasted malts, cocoa, and molasses. The taste like the aroma has a high level of sweetness with a roasty bittersweet finish. Overall, a solid stout from Evil Twin.

From bottle, pours pitch black with a small tan head that slowly disapates to a small ring. Aroma chocolate, roasted malts, coffee. Taste dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla. Do get a slight warming after each sip. Very nice.

Poured into stout glass. It pours a deep, dark opaque mahogany with a a one-finger khaki-colored head and lacing. It smells of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, tobacco, and raisin. The taste is rather smoky with bitter chocolate, burnt coffee grounds, raisin, and a subtle caramel. As it warms in the glass, I taste more chocolate, as well as the raisin that I smelled. It finishes with some bitterness. This stout is medium-bodied but less viscous and oily than many other fine Imperial Stouts. Overall, it is very good-not at the level of KBS, FBS, BCBS, BOMB, Speedway, and some others but very good nonetheless.

12 oz bottle, Julian date 327:15 (Nov 23, 2015).

Black color, opaque, with a dark tan head that shows good retention. Roasted malt with dark chocolate and coffee overtones. As it warms, the opens up some light raisin and prune-like fruity aromas. Roasted malt flavor is deep without becoming too rich. A bitter finish hides the alcohol content well, but does provide a faint warming sensation at the end. Medium-full bodied, not as heavy as other Imperial Stouts I've had lately, which keeps it light enough to finish in one sitting with no problem.

Evil Twin has just started to get distribution in NJ so I was finally able to give them a try for the first time. While their beers come off to me as gimmicky at times (Taiji Stout?), it's what's inside the bottle that matters. Inside this bottle, was a no bullshit Imperial Stout, brewed remarkably true to style.

Black as night with a fingernail of beige resting on top. The aroma is comprised of copious amounts of dark malt with some roasted barley. I taste plenty of dark malt, sweet chocolate, and dark roasted barley. This stout is a bit on the sweeter side overall. The mouth is silky and creamy.

Well-balanced classic Imperial Stout: coffee, malts, bourbon-barreled, chocolate, and other slight undertones; none of which compete against each other. Nice balance; easy to drink.

Preliminary: Fresh. Bottle pour.

Look: Pours a deep, tar-like structure that yields barely any head. The minimal amount of foam dissipates very quickly and has a lingering ring that retains on the glass. Looks sexual, like most Evil Twin stouts.

Smell: Picking up strong hints of plum, pipe tobacco, chocolate, roasted coffee, leather and malt.

Taste: Let this one warm up a bit. This is best at around 50-55 F where the sweetness and maltiness really unfold. Up front at a colder temperature, you are going to get a bold coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt and aggressive pallet overkill. When the stout reaches it's maximum flavor potential (Mitch Hedberg), plums, raisins, light apricots (heavy emphasis on the dried fruit), bittersweet chocolate, blonde (light) coffee, mild lactose, and earthy notes come out. Really digging this stout. Although it is meant to be balanced with its yang IPA, I am not sure if I'd want to do so as there is a light hoppiness that balances out this imperial stout. The light bitterness is a balancing point for the tasting profile.

Feel: Although this is not a sticky stout, it is certainly coats to ensure you enjoy the flavor. Really enjoying the lingering presence. Another reason I don't want to mix it with the yang.

Overall: 4.5 is definite. Might not be ET's finest hour, but this is certainly a balanced and flavorful occasion. Then again, ET rarely disappoints with their dark beers. Cheers.

Deepest black color with a thin caramel head with short retention.
Aroma with notes of vanilla, smoke, dark chocolate, licorice, spices, molasses and roasted coffee beans.
Flavor with notes of espresso coffee, charred wood, cola, cocoa, maple syrup, salt, pine, some earth, figs, plums, nuts, licorice, mild grapefruit citrusy, spices, vanilla and a bit of acid lactic. Dry aftertaste with lingering roasted and piney-earthy hop notes, but not overly so.
Full rich body with appropriate carbonation of tiny bubbles. Alcohol of 10% is superbly well disguised.
This is rather balanced and easy to drink Imperial Stout. Not narcissistic, just about right roasted, hoppy, spices and fruity sweet notes. Balanced without the additional Yang.

Big beige head on black body.

Smoke and malt.

Sweetness is the undertone to licorice and smoke, not quite dark chocolate. Punch, or bite, is the smoke but balance is what makes the beer. Nice but not rich.

Carbonation feels right.

First time trying this one at the Beer Market in Schaumburg. This beer gets so much better as it warms to room temp. Enjoyable roasted chocolate malt flavor and a solid pour.

This bottle is a little over a year old. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours black with a tan head that slowly falls leaving great retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are bold and full of milk chocolate. The flavors are bold as well. Lots of chocolate syrup. Roasted malts are there. Hints of vanilla. Very rich and smooth. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Dangerously drinkable. Mouthfeel is great. It's full-bodied with moderate carbonation; very creamy and fluffy. Very smooth stuff. Enjoyable and fun to drink.

I've never had this fresh, but I can say it's awesome with a year on it. It's not flashy, but just a classic example of the style. Evil Twin knows their stouts, and this one is no exception. Well done. I could drink this every day. Great stuff. Recommended.

Appearance: It has a nice jet black color to it. It has a nice creamy tan head that dies down moderately fast and leaves light lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of chocolate, coffee, molasses, toffee and sweet dark fruit.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a loads of chocolate upfront, roasted coffee, molasses, light toffee, some earthiness and dark fruit (figs mainly).

Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a very nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by great flavors and aromas. Lovely beer.

On draft-poured into and snifter glass.

Jet black with a small head-nice lacing left on the glass as I sip.

Kind of a weak smell. Chocolate, some coffee and figs. A touch of anise.

Taste is similar to the smell. Not sweet at all. Flavors develop as it warms. Quite complex with layers of flavor-very nice. No booze detected-impressive for a 10% beer.

Very smooth and easy to drink. Not creamy, just smooth. Dangerous.

Wow-this better than expected. Lots of subtle flavors going on. Will definitely have again-highly recommended for those who like complex flavors without the sweetness that tends to go with the style.

Serving: 12 oz bottle poured into a 9 oz Libbey Embassy snifter.

Appearance: Inky dark brown with a froth of light brown foam; spotty lace.

Smell: Dark roasted coffee, smoky grains and toffee.

Taste: Roasted grains, slight smoke, dark coffee bitterness, cocoa and an underlying maple syrup sweetness. Slight alcoholic heat.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, creamy smooth and moderately carbonated.

Overall: Big, boozy, bitter and roasted stout. Mixes well with Yang IIPA: intense hops and roasted malt balancing each other.

Spectacular looking beer that starts with a slow, thick pour. Dark black beer with a head that lags behind and cascades at it's own pace. Thick brown head with long legs. Amazingly thick lace, it just clings to the glass.

The scents are subtle, unlike the appearance. As you would guess, a malt bomb with dark roasty parts coffee expresso, and bittersweet chocolate.

It tastes exactly like it smells. While there seems to be a bit of hop presence, it could just be the combination of dark smoky grains. Coffee and expresso join bittersweet chocolate to combine for more of a breakfast drink than a shake.

Extremely creamy and smooth, especially early on where a bit of sweetness lives. From midsip on, the bitterness builds. It's never overly bitter and that bitterness doesn't linger. Very full bodied and that high ABV is way too well-hidden. Should be sipped but it's too smooth and goes down a bit easy.

Yin is a superb beer. All characteristics are subtle and well put together.

Poured into a Driftwood Brewery snifter glass.
L: Black body, +2 fingers mocha head. Looks awesome.
S: Coffee, milk and dark chocolate, olive skin, Leather, dirty hops. Smells awesome.
T: Stronger on the coffee and hop bitterness than the nose suggest (almost to the point of a black ipa), but still really nice. Dark fruits, chocolate, leatherey umami. Really nice, just a let down after the amazing smell.
F: Sticky, but not thick. No alcohol whatsoever. Bit of carbonation.
O: Really nice imp stout I could drink on a regular basis. Recommended for stout lovers who want a little more hoppiness or black ipa lovers who want to chill on the hops a bit.

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter

This beer pours black in color and is topped with several inches of mocha head that leaves some decent lacing.

I get aromas of cocoa and dark chocolate along with roasted malt.

The taste has dark chocolate and roasted malt. The finish is black coffee.

Full mouthfeel

This beer exceeded my expectations. It is a real solid stout. I'm not sure why I am surprised because Evil Twin makes some excellent beer.
