Evil Twin Brewing - Evil Twin Yin, poured into a Fiddlehead snifter.

Look - Pours a medium thick oily viscosity with an inch sized foamy mocha head that dissipates at a medium pace and leaves some sparse lacing.

Smell - Aroma is roasted malts, some semisweet chocolate, and some fennel.

Taste - Some chocolate and definite roasted/charred malts here.

Mouthfeel - Surprisingly thinner body than I would have expected based on the pour. Throat and tummy warm boozy. Light-heavy body with low carbonation.

Overall - Solid imperial stout, most of the focus is on the thinner roastiness. I personally go for a touch less roast, a bit more creaminess, and a TON more chocolate, whether it's sweet milk chocolate or the dark chocolate variety. Either way, this is a worth imperial stout.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a nearly pitch black color. The head stands tall at three fingers high, khaki shaded. Texture-wise, it seems more soapy than creamy, but still, this has good retention for a 10% beer. Some spotty patches of lacing are left behind.

S: This has a lot of licorice for my tastes. Seriously, a lot. Apart from that, this beer still brings the roast, still brings the chocolate, and even brings something resembling peat. There's even some slight citrusy hops floating around. Even with all the aniseed, this has a very appealing aroma.

T: I said the aroma brings the roast. Well, that's not the case here - because it REALLY brings the roast, like a charred sledgehammer. The roasted notes are mainly clustered near the finish; before that, it starts with a combination of fruitiness and licorice. It also finishes with slight wisps of chocolate and booze (just enough to add to the experience, mind). I'm really enjoying how charred the roasted malts are in particular.

M: It starts off really dry finishing in spite of the creamy body, and combined with its slightly thin body, gives it great drinkability. The finish becomes becomes a lot wetter as more is consumed - it's almost like said feature is an omen for me to stop slamming this. Too bad, because I absolutely adore a slammable imperial stout (Black Albert, anyone?) Carbonation is medium.

O: Make no mistake, this is really damn good. A bit pricey for me to purchase this frequently, though. Highly recommended for roast lovers.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is a little subdued - roasted chocolate malts and some black licorice and a little smoke.

The flavor is some sweetness up front with heavily roasted chocolate malts and some dark fruit and black licorice. There's lots of charred bitterness in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, but a bit watery.

Overall, it's got too much charred bitter roast.
