Appearance – Pitch black with a dark chocolate colored, rich foamy head. The head sticks around longer than their other stouts and leaves good lacing on the glass.

Smell – A solid scent of malt, chocolate, coffee, with a touch of brownie.

Taste – Roasted malts, Chocolate, coffee. Kind of similar to my all time favorite “Aún Más A Jesús”, but with less alcohol and flavor.

Mouthfeel – Creamy, lightly carbonated, and very smooth for 10%abv. Maybe even a bit on the light side; could use a little more alcohol or carbonation. No lingering aftertaste which is nice.

Drinkability – This one really took me by surprise based on the relatively low BA score of only 3.9. It’s FAR better than that in my opinion, although I really tend to like all Evil Twin stouts.

12 oz bottle,
5/7/13 bottling date. into a snifter.

Pours a pitch black with a good inch thick beige head. smell was not much as the beer was cold, but as the beer warmed the chocolate and malts really came through in the aroma. The taste was very chocolately and malty with some burnt cocoa. very tasty for an imp stout. good drinkability, full bodied with medium carbonation.

overall just a real good and tasty imperial stout. very recommended.

I bought the Yin and Yang to try together. I tried the Yang, and now the Yin. I prefer the Yin. Next I will mix them.

The Yin is a deep rich stout so it's black and not terribly aromatic (especially after the Yang). It has a ton of flavors going on. This is the kind of stout I usually like to age, but it is good now. Lots of roasty flavors In the malt. Not much hops showing through. The aftertaste is sublime. I prefer this to the Yang, but both are very good.

So now together - they seem to have lost quite a bit of edge but gained complexity. The aroma is great, but the taste is bewilderingly complex. I like it and would recommend this big time. I was skeptical, but it proved to be a first rate blend.

Keep in mind, drinking these is like doing shots. Very strong stuff.

Starts with good beige head, but it settles to rim bubbles. Leaves a combination of ring and stringy lace. The brew is deep, dark brown where no light shines through.

Dried powered cocoa is the first impression from the smell. A bit chalky.

Starts off thin and non-descript. But holding the liquid in the mouth is like fireworks--one starts with the anticipation but must wait for the explosions. When the flavor kicks in, it's quite strong. I note chocolate milk with a peppery bitterness. Dark burnt malts are the strongest flavors. Rather a classical Imperial Stout without the strong alcohol under current.
