Bottle, dated 10/23/13 poured into a Stone Imperial Russian Stout snifter.

A- 1/2 finger, brown head quickly drops or a light lace. Near jet body shows dark shades of brown and red when held to the light. Nothing left behind on the glass as it all falls slowly back into the body.

S- Lots of coffee initially, medium roast. Hints of chocolate, licorice, maybe a little raisin. A little boozy with warmth (subtle, not hot or jarring).

T- Hmm. Really interesting at first sip. A lot of very roasted grain, and dark roast coffee. Lesser chocolate and licorice. A lot grainier than expected. Licorice and raisin comes out with another sip. On further sips it might be more of a by-product of the roasted characteristics. Quite long in the finish. It gets smokey by the end. Bold for sure.

M- Very full bodied. Viscus with moderate/light carbonation. ABV is pretty well hidden.

O- Decent brew at first. A bit one-dimensional as anything else gets lost behind the dark roasted malts. Glad I tried it, but I've had more enjoyable beers at the pricing point (and cheaper). That said, I'd be interested in trying Yang alone and as a mix. I suppose I'm a sucker for their marketing. The more I drank this one, the less enjoyable it became.

Pours black with a small, dark tan fading head.
Nose shows cocoa, milk chocolate, vanilla and alcohol.
Very roasty flavours, more milk chocolate, cocoa, booze and spicy hops. Quite brash.
Needs more carbonation.
Pretty full on stuff, mixes well with yang.

eyes...
super dark cocoa head (one of the darkest I have seen in some time), some audible sizzle while standing at 2 fingers of attention, soapy/craggy flotilla of goodness on top of jet black, uber black, utter black, pitch black.. did I mention the hue ? light doesn't even bother to
wander into the zip code of this thing, I think I even lost whatever tan I had as it was sucked in by this massive vortex of black gravitational pull, grappling lacing tears down the sidewalls, so yeah.. it's ok looking. er, monstrous looking!

nose...
dry sweet cocoa with sugary molasses, some light roast notes, faint prunes, a real sense of dryness and sweetness are the strongest notes here, nice

taste etc...
smooth in a weird way, it almost 'floats' on your tongue, and then some of the big flavors hit, there is that strangely dry almost chalky flavor on the middle of your tongue, on the forward sides there is some sweetness akin to chocolate and then in the back there is some bitterness mixed with roasted tones, this thing really coats the mouth, the ABV is barely noticeable (if at all), the flavor is pretty damn deep on this puppy, full mouth feel with deceptively bright carbonation, as you linger on the chocolate bitterness seems to assert itself a touch more and the alcohol peeks out as well giving it a bigger overall flavor almost as if it is building upon itself

verdict?
woah. f the yang, get the yin. deep flavor, big ass ABV and bold. a must try for impy stout fans imo
