Visually this beer is ideal .. nice amber color and rich foamy head. Constant bubbles like champagne. Aroma is very sweet and boozy, bready. Deep pine and floweriness on the tongue, bitterness developing the more you sip. Beer is creamy and sticks to your mouth.. Overall a very solid IPA that hides it's 10% extremely well..the florals are not overbearing but showcase what is hoped for when drinking a beer of this style.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/13/2013. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep orange copper color with a 2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, floral, grass, pine, caramel, biscuit, light toffee, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of juicy citrus hops and nearly balanced malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, floral, grass, caramel, biscuit, light toffee, and floral/grassy earthiness. Sizable pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, citrus rind, pine resin, caramel, biscuit, light toffee, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity of juicy citrus/pine hops with moderate malt sweetness; with a very crisp malt/bitterness balance and some lightly cloying pine resin bitterness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a lightly slick, crisp, and very sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice DIPA. All around good complexity of citrus/pine hops and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

I eschewed the whole black and tan experience in favor of trying this dialectic in sequence, "life" first. I am rather left-brained you see. An orange-bronze hue like dark honey, with a huge beige head (pour accordingly). Fantastic aroma that really stands out, toffee and candied grapefruit, tangerine, slightly funky tropical fruit juice, ripe mango. Tastes well-attenuated with a deceptively thin body given the aroma, but does not taste mellow. This one is quite boozy folks, and not for the meek. The alcohol is pretty astringent and the whole tannic, woody package dries out the palate. Whereas the smell is sweet and fruity, the taste is pine, black and white peppercorns, green banana, tobacco, some grapefruit and lime rind but this latter element is nearly swamped by the bitterness. Does get a little sweeter as one proceeds, evoking some orange breakfast drink, and the mouthfeel is smooth. In an universe of rather sweet malty DIPAs this represents a different spin and really manages to trigger the bitter receptors. Perhaps I'd try to skew things away from the medicinal woodiness and back toward the hop aromas preserved so beautifully on the nose, but what do I know? I get to drink and enjoy these things and write some reviews as a labor of love. I can see how the unbridled bitterness of this brew would indeed mesh well with the roasty sweetness of Yin (review forthcoming).
