Poured into a snifter.

4.5 A: Moderately hazed medium amber color. Three big fingers of pillow off-white head. Retention is good and tons of lacing is left.

4.0 S: This is a BW type DIPA. Big floral hop aroma right from the start. Citrusy orange, mango, pineapple, and grapefruit too. Layers of caramel sweetness on the malt side. Hints of toffee as well. Can't complain, it smells great.

3.75 T: Resiny hoppy stickiness. Floral notes foremost once again, then orange, mango, and grapefruit. Moderate bitterness. Plenty of caramel sweetness to balance along with a hefty neutral malt maltiness. Again, quite nice.

4.25 M: Heavier body. Good moderate carbonation. Big creaminess with a moderate sticky chewiness.

4.0 D: Really tasty malty DIPA. Not much else to say. Pick it up.

bottle picked up locally, enjoyed from tørst wine glass.

a - brew poured a transparent orange amber with a finger of foamy head that coated the glass and hung out for a while. the brew definitely has a rich almost syrupy look.

s - dank hops with a crisp almost mentholated vibe. resin and pine. barleywine-ish.

t - bam...pow...zing! bitter hop assault. fairly boozy with a bite. resembles a barleywine.

m - bitter and thick with some booze.

o - overall, evil twin has been doing some very interesting things and with more and more of their brews popping up lately, i have been enjoying exploring the catalog. this one just showed up so wanted to try it on the fresh side despite the mixbag of reviews. not a bad beer, but in the world of IIPAs...this one can't hang with the big boys. there is a unique twist with the bigness of this one and for that it is worth checking out (esp if you like those "extreme" beers)...but this isn't one i'd look for on its own again...perhaps i'll try the black and tan though?

Pours a somewhat opaque deep, deep copper with a billowing frothy cream head that slowly dissipates, leaving sticky lacing.

Aroma is resiny, bready, caramelly sweet, and citrusy. Notes of pine and mint accompany grapefruit and orange.

Flavor is decidedly bitter. There's an initial punch of lemon, grapefruit, and lemon peel, but bitter, resiny hops take over mid palate and carry into the dry finish. Sweet, caramel malt accompanied the initial citrus flavor, but also falls to the bitter, earthy hops. Alcohol is evident mid palate.

Body is moderate to a tad syrupy, with carbonation a bit on the low side and significant alcohol warmth.

Slightly cloying at first, with decent citrus flavor, but the brutal bittering hops overwhelm. Doesn't suit my palate. The alcohol is a bit overwhelming, as well.

The beer comes in a deep amber orange color.

The aroma has caramel malt, citrus hops, lots of sweetness.

The flavor follows with a good malt backbone, but also citrus and piney bitterness. It does a decent job with hiding the alcohol and holding back the bitterness with a good compliment of caramel sweetness.

It reminds me almost of a refined Hoptimum with things toned down a bit. It has a full, almost creamy mouthfeel for a DIPA.

An interesting and delicious brew.

Bottled 03/12/12

Pours an effervescent copper/orange with 3 fingers of cream colored head. Crazy lacing & nice head retention

S: Doughy with leafy hops, pears & toffee

T: Doughy, leafy & piney hops, some tea like tannin & a touch or orange rind up front. Some pear notes once warm, more pineyness & woody hops, a bit of toffee sweetness, loads of pineyness too. Finishes oaky dry, with sweet maltyness, faint cherry, slight booze heat, woody hops that really brings puckery bitterness

MF: Chewy, fairly lively carbonation, good balance, sticky, some booze warmth

An interesting DIPA with an English slant, but no game changer. Would've love to try this about 3-4 months fresher
