This poured a hazy copper orange that was murky and deep. Opaque with highlights around the edges and had bubbles coming up from the bottom . A scant head of loose bubbles that fell pretty fast to a film o'er top and a pretty thick ring. I would say this one was pretty and had great legs. Left good lace but it was fleeting. Nose is bright orange and sweet pink grapefruit. really delightful. Pine and herbal hops. A deeply sweet caramel malt base that strikes me as smooth already and with more bread that it boasts. Taste is really well done. Everything in it's place. A hop forward bitter greets the palate and then the sweet pink grapefruit with a little pith. Just like a real grapefruit. The orange is light over top of that and some catty hops. There is the very lightest pine oil and resin and a nice subtle warming from the alcohol that is leans in to a toasted nutty malt finish that's not as sweet as the nose.

What a superb and delightful IPA. Nothing loud or rambunctious. Finely crafted and everything deliberately well done to give you the finest possible experience in the drink. The abv is 10 percent but it doesn't feel like it. Smooth and satisfying. What a treat compared to all the very loud and egregiously bitter ipa's one is bound to sample. This one had class and was completely captivating. Stately and played down. What character.

Ripe orange citrus hop aroma followed by caramel malt sweetness. Herbal hop undertones with gooseberry and pine, slightly catty.

Medium amber, light tan foamy head persists. Beer is fairly hazy.

Big caramel malt followed by herbal then citrus hop flavor. Malt seems to have a vanilla quality under the dominating caramel sweetness. Bittering hop is high and clean and does a good job matching huge malt profile.

Med-full body with creamy character; alcohol noticeable but not harsh. Somewhat enjoyable sensation of pine sap on the back of my tongue.

Overall this is nicely balanced for a huge IIPA. Wish I could have opened it 2 months earlier - date on the bottle clearly marked 3/12/13. The moderate age didn't help, this had the bitterness-over-aroma hop character that my big hoppy beers take on after a few months. Not quite oxidation but similar, with hop aroma and flavors dropping out and crystal malts becoming magnified. Still, a delicious and very well made IIPA.
