another awesome four pack from evil twin, this time a saison with a big creamy texture and some funky wine like weirdness on the back end. reminds me of some of the french saison yeast out there, but the wheat body is large, which is a cool format for whats going on here. more hops or a prominent dry hopping would make it elite, but as it stands its simplicity is one of its better features. some pear and mowed lawn on the nose, more of a white grape element in the taste. its all from the yeast, as the grain base is familiar. not as funked out as others, no brett or anything going on, but a soft fruitiness and something extremely summery about it, sunny beer, a little strong for all day drinking, but it has that boat beer feel to it. extremely strong carbonation, but it doesnt hold on that well, dissipates a bit. mild acidity out of nowhere with a lemon twang to it in the finish, not as dry as others, but the combination makes it distinct to my taste buds. maybe a little overpriced, but all these evil twin beers are. glad i bought it, but might not buy it again.

Refreshing beer, not a great Saison though. Pours a hazy dark gold color with a huge delicately bubbly white head. Good retention and several bands of lacing on the glass.

Aroma is lemon zest, some spices (definitely black pepper, maybe a little coriander too), and Belgian yeast.

Flavor is more of the same but what is missing is a big, not so subtle barnyard/musty/horseblanket thing that is so welcome in the best Saisons.

Mouthfeel is pretty good. The level of carbonation is just right and the beer is plenty rich enough.

Good beer but needs more "funk" to be a top Saison.

Appearance - 1 finger head, not as big as Saison should be. Very light, cloudy body

Smell - mild earthy and funk, vinegar?? Interesting...

Taste - smooth, no abrasive overly funky tastes, some earthiness. Refreshing, raw asparagus.

Mouthfeel- smooth, not quite as carbed as most (good in this case)

Overall, good not great. Not worth price tag

Bottled 11/7/13

Appearance: Pours cloudy straw yellow with a small, white head that quickly collars.

Smell: Lemon peel, coriander, honey, tangerines/peaches with some undeniable funk.

Taste: Begins with honey and tangerine/mango. Middle of the mouth is earthy bitterness with some funk. It finishes semi-dry with lingering notes of the earthy bitterness and funk from the middle with remnants of the honey/tangerine in the background. There's not much booze to speak of, though you might guess it could be above 6%.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and sticky, with good carbonation.

Overall: This was better than I thought it would be. It's a really good spring/summer beer and a pleasant surprise.
