500ml bottle poured into tulip 11/2/13

A murky orange liquid with loads of sediment and bubbles, at first the bottle pours foam perhaps 5 times the foam as liquid. It settles down and I end up with beer in my glass and a very well sustained soapy head that leaves lots of lace

S farmhouse yeast, thrills gum, spice, apple, dried orange peel and cereal, smells pretty solid, some earthy wet wood as it warms

T tastes like sour fruit a little, the cereals stale and there's something I can't place holding this one back, some grapefruit rind I didn't smell and in fact the taste and nose are strangely different

M explodes as soon as it hits your mouth, after some swirls it calms down and has a fairly full body and just a little heat, a little slick in the mouth and spicy earthy finish

O interesting take on the style, I though the nose was right on but room for improvement in other areas but its pretty decent overall

I'm not sure if all the bubbles and foam are a good thing or bad, not sure if that would mellow with time either. I think this would work with a warm Spring day and that could be a while in this part of the world

Pours a light golden with a thick, creamy snow-white cap.

Smells awesome, bright, fresh hops, citrus and stone fruit aromas. Maybe not as funky as most traditional Saisons. It almost has a pilsner nose, which to some purists may be off-putting, but not me.

Flavors are smooth, very fresh and light. It is perhaps a little light on flavors, but as a subtle beer it goes a long way. The finish is long, slightly bitter/dry and retains some of the fruit.

Very nice beer, a little too light for a Saison, but because it is so tasty, I am not going to split hairs about being true to style. It was perfect with a Thai dinner.

500ml bottle. Not quite getting what they mean by either 'Ryan' or the "Beaster bunny". I guess I'll try to google-fu that later. Maybe.

This beer 'pours', or should I say, gloops out of the bottle in a chunky, tightly effervescent stream, that instantaneously piles up, with the aggressive foam rendering a glass that is barely 1/20th liquid. Fucking great. After ten minutes or so, the hubbub seems to die down, but then you tip the bottle, and it starts all over again. Ridiculous.

Anyway, after considering doing my taxes in the interim, things settle to something approaching normality, and I'm left with some actual beer, of a cloudy medium golden amber hue, with an indeterminate number of fingers of puffy, thinly foamy off-white head, which leaves some random chunky swaths of lace around the glass as it finally sinks out of sight.

It smells of prominent black and green pepper spice, grainy pale malt, musty farm-borne yeast, sugary chewing gum, stale applesauce, and a sodden alcohol-soaked woodiness. The taste is sweet, grainy cereal malt, generic, weirdly tart apple mush, rather pithy citrus rind, a much milder, middling peppery spice, an equally sedated green yeastiness, and some understated flinty booze notes.

The (over) carbonation is still pretty actively frothy in the mouthfeel, so late into this affair, the body medium (I guess) weight, and not really smooth given every word I have just scratched out. It finishes off-dry, the grain, pepper, yeast, and alcohol all still preening for the camera.

Swuh? I poured the last 1/3 bottle of this into a 2L mixing bowl, and it still foamed up over the lip - WTF? Seriously, while this turns out (eventually) to be a sassy, peppery, boozy flip-off to those to might think they know what a saison is, it's just not worth the hassle, IMHO. Funny how I'm trying this on V-day, as the work to just get to the good part seems worth the effort, sure (which I believe justifies my appearance score), but only once I've actually had a heady dose of said part. Get your shit together, Evil Twin, as this is by no means the first incident of the sort that I've had the displeasure of stumbling across lately.

Bottle from volunteering for BBF 2011. 16oz capped bottle Poured into Lost Abbey stemware. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a massive, 2 finger white, foamy head with good retention. Beer is a semi-clear pale yellow-clementine. Lacing is stringy and thick with good stick. Nice, even considering the style.

Nose is typical saison. Soapy with bountiful amounts of floral and spice characteristics. Very sweet and fresh. Solid.

Opens sweet with some citrus rind light tartness. Crisp and yeasty towards the middle with some peppercorn spice. Soapy and floral notes at the middle-end. Finishes flower petals and lemon zest with a filmy, slight bitter peppery aftertaste. Decent but could use a bit more funk characteristic.

Light bodied with moderate to high carbonation. Lively, crisp, and easy drinking in the mouth. Goes down bubbles and spicy with a crisp finish and lingering, filmy, dry aftertaste. Appropriate. Very easy drinking.

A solid representation of the style if just a tad boring. Nice feel and good flavor but really lacking that special funkiness to put it over the top as a great Saison.
