Bottled 2/12/14, poured slowly from bottle into an IPA glass on 4/27/14, finishing the pour vertically to form a better head. The appearance is copper in color and forms a thick, bubbly cream colored head. Viscosity seems apparent from the pour. Sediment is notoriously present and resembles specks of fish food in an aquarium.
Its aroma is not exactly what you would expect form an American DIPA. Smells malty sweet - brown sugar, fruit - picking up mostly pineapple and a faint hop aroma in the background. After the first few sips I can taste the pineapple notes even more, the rest is a sweet caramelly flavor that's closely followed by the bitterness of the ever-present albeit somewhat hidden hops. You feel the alcohol immediately, although I wouldn't use "boozy" to describe its taste.
Mouthfeel reminds me of DFH 120 Min IPA. Thick and viscous for a DIPA - yet at 13% ABV - I feel this helps hide the alcohol very well. Molotov Cocktail's body composition also helps drink sips and savour them more easily as opposed to the bigger gulps one might take with other D/IPAs.
Overall, this is a pretty solid beer. I read reviews before cracking it open and wasn't sure what to expect but I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. Also, I kept in mind the whole time this wasn't going to be your typical American IPA (even though its brewed in CT) so I was not expecting those typical characteristics.

I have braced myself for this one.Pours into a small tulip glass a clear burnt orange tinged golden with a tight formed one finger slightly off white head that sticks like glue to the glass, surprisingly alot of carbonation for a beer this big.Powdered sugar and oily hops in the nose,it just smells menacing,I pick up some faint nuttiness but no alcohol as it warms which is surprising. The alcohol wich was so well hidden in the aromas rears its big head on the palate, sweet fusel alcohol intertwined with citric hops is in your face, there is more caramel-like sweetness but the alcohol sweetness is king.It can barely be called a DIPA but I do like it,it's strong and sweet but the flavors meld well.Be careful here,it's big and in your face.

12 oz bottle, bottled on 7/31/13. Pours golden amber with a medium creamy off-white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is sweet caramel malts, tropical fruits and alcohol.
The flavor is heavily sweet and sugary fruity malts with big bitterness in the finish (that doesn't really dry out the cloying sweetness) and quite a bit of harsh alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation.
Overall, a bit of a mess, cloyingly sweet with some bitterness and a ton of alcohol. Reminds me of DFH 120 minute IPA.

Golden yellow color with some appreciable white head. Decent lacing. Super crazy grapefruit and estery fruitiness. Super grapefruit taste as well. Nice malt backbone to support the rediculous hop profile, but it comes off a bit boozey. Heavily carbonated and nice medium body too. Aftertaste is lightly bitter. This definitely grew on me over the last few bottles.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.
Appearance: Pours a hazy amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of off white head which slowly fades into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.
Smell: A ripe, juicy, and dank hop forward aroma with big hints of citrus and pine. Upfront citrus hops with hints of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, lemon, pineapple, tangerine, and apricot. Dank and spicy pine resin along with some grass and floral hints. Sweet malt background with hints of sweet caramel, grains, yeast, and cracker. Very hop forward and juicy. A pretty good aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a very ripe, juicy, and dank hop dominated taste with big notes of citrus, pine, and grass. Citrus hop presence with big notes of grapefruit, orange pulp, mango, pineapple, apricot, lemon, tangerine, and melon. Big dank presence of spicy pine resin and grass. Sweet malt backbone with notes of caramel, grains, yeast, cracker, and slight honey. Very juicy and bitter. A pretty good hoppy taste.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very juicy, oily, and drying on the finish. Somewhat boozy as expected with the 13% ABV.
Overall: A very good imperial IPA. Huge juicy hops all over the place. Not for the faint of heart but great for a hop head.
