Did you like Before, During, & After Christmas? Maybe you thought it poured brilliantly, and you loved of the arrogant amounts of hops wowed you. This beer will knock your tongue off, essentially due to the obscene amount of hops that went down this explosive fella. It’s a tour de force in hoppiness and by far the craziest beer made by Evil Twin… but not the last.

Brewed at Fanø Bryghus.

L. looks like an IPA

S. Little or no nose at all.

T. Musty, aggressive bittering mostly in the back of the mouth. Little or no hop taste, just alchohal.

f. Tastes old musty, down right nasty, sorry.

O. I did not like it at all

Poured nice medium gold with a creamy one inch head. Decent staying power and nice sticky lacing. The aroma was quite sweet, not much hops. The flavor followed. Probably needed to be this malty to hide the alcohol but I thought a better hop balance would have helped. Did not taste or feel too hoppy but it did wreck my palate for other lesser beers. Overall, OK. It drank like a barleywine but there are other barleywines that I would seek first.

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a tulip glass

It is amber in color with golden highlights. It is topped with an inch of off-white head.

It has a really sweet smell. It is almost a caramel and molasses aroma with an earthy element.

The taste is sweet. It tastes along the lines of an English barleywine. I get some brown sugar and dates.

Medium mouthfeel

This beer is very sweet at this point. I have had it on tap, but do not recall this level of sweetness. It is 13%, so I can't complain.

A- Hazy golden orange pour from the 12oz bottle into a teku with a tall, thick creamy white crown. Pretty good head retention while a large, thick ring remains dropping a massive blanket at the top with

S- Similar to other high-octane ABV IPAs I have had with an obvious sweet malt aroma right off the top with orange, grapefruit, pine, dried stone fruits (could be malts combining) and floral hops following. Not boozy here with slight apple and fruit esters.

T- Hops gain some ground but so does the sweetness that the aroma hinted would be present. Bittersweet oranges, lemon peel, grapefruit, pine, apricot and herbal floral hops. Sugar comes to mind as with time it becomes almost cloying with pale caramel hints.

MF- Heavy, thick and slick overall body with an oily and fairly creamy consistency. Carbonation is just a sliver below medium. Very slightly warm and bitter.

Drinks sort of like a hoppy Barleywine due to a large sweetness and plenty of malts coming down with the hops. IPAs over 11% are truly an interesting category and most of the time I end up wondering how Russian River pulls of Younger the way they do. Sugary sweetness detracts from the citrus and herbal hops.

Bottle: Poured a hazy beige/orangey color ale with a small foamy head. Aroma of dry hoppy notes with loads of residual sugar notes and also plenty of ethanol notes. Taste is hoppy and somewhat bitter with way too much residual sugars and way too much ethanol notes. Body is full with medium carbonation. Unbalanced and incredibly messy IIPA that I won’t be revisiting any time soon.

Look: three fingers of head, gorgeous rich orange hues. Classic DIPA.

Smell: some hops, some malt, LOTS of booze.

Taste: the hops hit first with some pine and citrus, toffee malt, lots of booze at the end, but it mellows a bit as it warms.

Feel: well carbonated, boozy creaminess.

Overall: when I cracked this open, I smelled booze, when I poured it, I smelled booze, when I took in a big whiff, I smelled booze. I don't LIKE booze - at all. But I found myself really enjoying this as it warmed. It's as subtle as a hammer between the eyes, but I have to tip my cap to the folks at Evil Twin. Well done.

On tap at Brothers Provisions. Strong dried mango with caramel and candi aroma, and very smooth for a 13% IPA. Alcohol hides itself well.

The alcohol taste is masked surprisingly well for being 13%. However, Molotov light is still the superior beer.

It's very sweet, I would guess to offset its wine-like strength. If it lost a little of that honeyishness, it would be a favorite. It's still very good. Certainly warms the cockles.

Picked up a single 12 oz. bottle of this to try on a recent trip to Kentucky and south western Ohio. Poured into one of my tulip glasses, this beer pours a somewhat cloudy/hazy medium copper amber color with some streams of bubbles rising to the surface of the beer and a lot of yeasty chunks floating around in the beer. Has a white head that is about 1/2 of an inch thick when first poured before settling to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass along with a nice big cluster of foam on the beer's surface and pretty decent lacing. Aromas of citrus, herbal, resinous, piney hops and alcohol rounded out with some subtle maltyness. Has a fairly sweet, slightly toasted, biscuity, caramel malt sweetness upfront that gives way to big piney, resinous, herbal, and somewhat grapefruit-esque hop flavors. Rounded out with some dried fruit notes such as figs, apricots, and perhaps a bit of plum. Lots of booze too. The sweetness here booziness certainly dominate here. I wonder how long this beer was sitting on the shelf at The party Source before I purchased it. To me this drinks more like a good barley wine than a double IPA, and I can't find any indicator on the bottle of when this batch was bottled. It is very tasty nonetheless, just not very bitter. Has a somewhat crisp, frothy and creamy, slightly prickly, somewhat chewy and oily, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Surprisingly easy to drink. A damn fine beer indeed!

When the muon was discovered, physicist Isidor Rabi said, "Who ordered that?"

That's how I feel about this beer. It's kind of good, but what is it, when would I ever want to drink it?

Its closest cousin is the Rogue New Crustacean Barleywineish IPA. Take one of those, apply reverse osmosis to concentrate it by 25%, and you'll get something like this.

It looks pretty, copper/gold, unfiltered, light head.

Smells like Dogfish Head 90 minutes, with all that apricot hoppiness. Not super intense.

Taste is "BOOM" intense. Bitter, sweet, rich, hoppy, honeyed, everything, it's all in there. Can't drink it with food, it'd knock everything else out of the box. Maybe a spicy chili.

Mouthfeel is rich, fine, thick.

But the sum is less than the parts, because when the hell do I want to drink this? It's like a dragster that can't be driven on the street. Oh, and 6 oz. is enough, this is a two-portion beer. The alcohol in it feels much more like the Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine (15% ABV) than (say) Ten Fidy.

I held on to this one way too long. I usually like to move my hoppy beers up in the rotation. Still plenty of bitterness on this one. I may eventually get another one and drink it fresh. Pours a hazy light orange/golden color with a very small small head. Very poor head retention (expected with such a high abv. beer). Minimal lacing. Good strong aroma of piney hops and caramel malt.
Taste is similar. Oily, piney hops, not quite balanced out with sweet caramel malt. Good flavor with some take-your-breath-away alcohol presence. Not hot or burning, just noticible, like sipping a smooth whiskey. Mouthfeel features oily hops and a warming alcohol presence. The bitterness is fairly prominent. Overall a decent beer, but I can get a flavorful hops blast without having to deal with 13% abv.

A: tinged rusted golden. Slightly Cloudy with a bit of sediment. Appealing cideresque look.
S: faint smokiness detected. Odiferously malty.
T: citrusy, a bit apple-y. The 13% abv is masked well yet the astringency comes through half way through. Definitely a night-ender
M: smooth at first, astringency from potency leaves a bit of an alcoholic off gasing to remind you of what will be seeping from your body later-moreso than a lesser abv brew.

Not bad although usually when I get a beer this strong I expect it to carry a bit more complexity taste wise in conjunction with its alcohol content.

EvilTwin Brewing Molotov Cocktail, 12 fl. oz., 13% alc by vol., Imperial India Pale Ale. Ale brewed with natural flavors.

Appearance: clear and bright golden, under an impressive white, lace-leaving head.

Aroma: Juicy fruit, citrus, tropical, piney, resin-y…all that hoppy goodness. Sweet, yeah, and plenty of bitter. Well done.

Taste: Bittersweet on the palate, more bitter this time than sweet. Dank bitterness reigns supreme, dripping citrus-y hop bombs. Astringent, acerbic, rich and drenched in uber-hoppiness. Just the way I like it.

And now the booze rises up in the taste department. high alcohol blazes the palate and skewers the flavor, but dang if I don't dig it. There are more flavors and feelings here, that you only get in brews like this, a combination of dried and candied fruits, apricots and peaches, something straddling the ridiculous and the sublime.

Let's read the label, shall we? "Did you like Before During and After Christmas, maybe you thought it poured brilliantly, the alcohol was admirable well hidden and you loved how the arrogant amount of hops numbed your mouth. This beer will knock your tongue off--it's a tour de force in hoppiness and by far one of the craziest beer ever made by Evil Twin Brewing." Brewed by Evil Twin Brewing, Standford, CT.
