22oz served in a Prairie teku
In honor of my twins on Father's Day weekend.

A - golden body with a massive meringue head. Incredible amounts of 3d lacing.

S - tropical fruits galore, pineapple, mango, papaya, peach, some soapy spiciness. Fresh grain, yeasty bread.

T - tropical fruits, lots of strong papaya, pineapple, guava, stone fruits, peach and persimmon. A good amount of citrus as well. Some funkiness. Candy malts are lightly sweet with some faint breadiness. Finishes dry and spicy.

M - medium full body, lush feel, moderate carbonation but doesn't distract and seems mellow. Dry finish.

A tropical forward saison that's bright with a great mouthfeel. I loved this beer.

Bomber bottle, purchased in Peeksklill, NY $11.99. "Best Before 2015" on the label

Pours clouded lighter tangarine/amber/golden, under an intiially huge med. khaki head, that slowly fades to a thicker foam, gauzy sheets of fine lacing.

Lemon, honey and pepper on the nose.

Dry, flavorful, over loaded with citric juices, lime and loads of pepper. Carbonation on the high side. Crisp, moderatly tart and bright. Brett showing nicely, with some light funk, but mostly crisply and with more puckeringly dry/citric character.

Lovely beer, go get some

L: Effervescent, lively brilliant gold under a 3” finely bubbled persistent clingy pillowy white foam collar.
S: Over ripe fruit, light grain, citrus, orange, light honey.
T: Fruit, citrus, bread, traces iof honey, finishing with a lingering citrus rind bitternesds.
F: Very soft in the mouth with a creamy texture that gives substance to a medium light body. Medium carbonation. Exceptionally creamy.
O: A dry, refreshing Saison with an outrageously good texture

Slightly hazed golden in color with a creamy white head that leaves ribbons and lots of sticky lace down the glass.

Aroma is a nice combination of grass, hay, earth, a little bit of bubble gum, yeast, and floral hops. Very nice.

The flavor is similar to the aroma, with good amounts of grass, earth, and floral characters leading the way, along with a bit of sweet bubblegum, and bread. Very nice and incredible drinkable. No alcohol presence.

Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation, and somewhat creamy.

Very nice, incredibly drinkable saison, though probably not worth the price point.

650ml bottle. Another saison, as the 'season' quickly wanes, this one brewed with honey.

This beer pours a very hazy, cloudy medium golden yellow colour, with two fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves a pretty decent array of layered sedimentary rock lace around the glass as it slowly recedes.

It smells of sharp, edgy earthy yeast, semi-sweet wheaty cereal malt, white and black pepper, very tame leathery funk, dry lemon zest, and herbal, floral hops. The taste is still rather cutting up front, what with the sassy yeast, dry citrus pith, and zingy pepper dust all sort of conferring as such, before some slightly less pungent lemon rind 'fruitiness' comes aboard, alongside a mild earthy funk, understated orchard stone fruitiness, mild white pepper spiciness, and touch of finally manifested ethereal honey sweetness.

The bubbles are fairly hefty, and zingy for the most part, with a hollow frothiness, the body medium-light in weight, and a tad acrid in its attempt at smoothness. It finishes quite dry, the yeast still large and in charge, the citrus and drupe fruitiness hanging tough, and da funk loitering like it wasn't exactly a misdemeanor.

A decent enough saison, though the honey has a hard time convincing me that it actually exists. Yeasty, wheaty, spicy, and a bit boozy - that's what this one is all about. As for Ron or Ryan (is he a beast?), I really have no fucking clue who they are, and even less gumption to learn more, at this particular point in time.

Surprisingly decent saison, smooth with a honey finish. Recently purchased bottle. Light coloured body, slightly spicy and in no way funky aroma. Good drinkability, does not even need the honey to be a good saison, and it would have been not as sweet.

Poured into a Stone IRS glass. Hazy, straw color with foamy white head that lasts a bit then quickly disappears, leaving a very thin layer behind. Brewed with one of my personal favorites, Brettanomyces. Nose is lemon, straw, slightly sweaty/funky, some apples and some bready yeast notes. The taste is very lemony up front. Almost more lemony than lemons. That quickly gives way to a funky barnyard taste with tropical fruits like mango. There's some bready, malty tastes in the back and a strong yeasty taste more in the foreground. Some flavors of tart green apples and even a little bit of cherry in there. Delicious. It is very carbonated but not in an overwhelming way. Its very drinkable for something so funky. I am not usually a fan of saisons but a lot of new ones seem to be growing on me. If I get the opportunity to pick up another of these I will and I'll sit on it for a bit to see where the Brett goes. It tastes like its still alive and kicking and it has a long journey ahead of it.

Served from bottle into a Mikkeller oversized wine glass. Poured a hazy yellow-orange with a one finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount very slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, banana, spices, banana runts, and bubble gum. The flavor was of sweet malt, bubble gum, banana, spices, and bread. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. The aroma on this one was really nice and complex. It made me think that this was going to be a massively sweet brew that would make me wish I had a shot for diabetes standing by. However, the flavor was very nice and well balanced and actually tasted like bubble gum which was awesome to experience again as it doesn’t happen often in the brews I drink. Definitely a must try from Evil Twin!

Pours a bright yet cloudy pale orange color with a short yet dense pure white head. A bit more orangey than your typical saison.

The aroma is quite sweet, has kind of an orangey candy type scent. Some subtle tart apple and farmhouse funk, mainly hay. Its a nice aroma but definitely sweet.

The taste has an earthy sourness that was not picked up in the aroma. Kind of sharp bitter unripe orange. There is a brightness from the malt and floral notes. Some hay and funk and an odd metallic note. The bitter/sour is too sharp for my liking.

The feel is light and fizzy, crisp. Good balance for the most part but does end with a rough bitterness.

A flavorful saison but the sour/bitter is a bit too striking; needs to be more mellow. Its worth a purchase but not sure a re-purchase.

500 ml bottle. Served in a Unibroue tulip, the beer pours a cloudy gold color with about an inch and a half frothy white head that stayed around for a long time. There's also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like hay, bready malt, peppery spice, lemon peel, and some green apples. It tastes like bready malt, lemon peel, bubblegum, peppery spice and some fruit and herbs. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick and has moderate/high (but soft) carbonation which helps make this easy to drink. I think this is a solid overall brew, but it's not my favorite of the Evil Twin beers I've tried. With that being said, I do think it's worth trying.

S: herbal and floral notes over tropical fruit and yeast

T: unripe mango and white pepper spice; herbal, yeasty with brett's tart funk; notes of sandalwood and grapefruit peel; honey-sweet flicker on the finish

M: competition between moderate bitterness and yeast tartness, medium-light body, mildly fuzzy carbonation, sweet then drying finish

O: a nice saison with a lot of complexity, really enjoy the brett and fruit and honey combination - EvilTwin seems to have a pretty good feel for brett pairings, and this is no exception

GUSHER! For a long time after I opened my first Biscotti Break (which was a disaster of volcanic gushering), I opened all my Evil Twin (and a few other breweries like Hof Dormaal) beers in the kitchen sink. Then a long period of well behaved ale made me lower my guard. This bottle did not shoot into the air, but had a ferocity of flow that was amazing. In a quick few seconds to run to the sink, I lost 2/3s of the bottle. Eventually:
Poured into a Nostradamus flute, pouring a very hazy, almost opaque caramel amber with a large (but only 2% of the total) white head that had good retention and lacing. Pleasant aroma of bready malt, light saison yeast, stone and citrus fruit, nice. Flavor is Brett, saison yeast, much more subdued stone and citrus fruit. Finishes dry and Bretty with a long aftertaste of the wild yeast, citrus rind and light bittering hops. Light bodied with very active carbonation. A classic Brett inspired saison with an above average, moderately complex fruit component. The wild yeast influence was a bit beyond my preference, but well within the style expectations. A good deal for the price in a 22oz, bomber, perhaps not so much for 7 ounces of actual saison in the glass. My floor was sticky and drunk all night. Back to opening beer in my sink….

Poured into a Three Floyds tapered glass. Label says Best Before 2015.

A- Pours a hazy light golden color with a towering three finger cream-colored head that retains a good while before plateauing down to a 1/4 inch head. Fluffy, sudsy lacing that's non-resilient. When the bottle is emptied, white murky sediment is seen floating to the bottom of the glass.

S- Crisp barnyard aroma with noticeable Brett. Equal parts musty and citrusy with notes of lemongrass, pineapple and peach. Slightly effervescent.

T- Nice Bretty flavor with a bit of tartness and funk. Tangy and somewhat bitter. Refreshing and citrusy. Alcohol is pretty well masked. Mild spice notes.

M- Medium-high carbonation suits the wild characteristics of the flavor. Tight and snappy with a light body.

O- Though it doesn't necessarily excel, this is a classic example of a funky saison.

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color and poured with a finger high bright white head that quickly died down and consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: The smell has aromas of natural flavored root beer along with hints of funkiness, lemon citrus and spices.
T: The taste has flavors of ginger, lemon citrus and rosemary along with some hints of root beer.
M: The beer is light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate to high amount of carbonation. The finish has a bit of spiciness but lacks any dryness.
O: The beer is rather easy to drink and has some refreshing properties.

22 ounce bomber poured into a Gouden Carolus chalice. Fluffy, white head, high retention on a clear golden body. Soapy, suddsy lacing. Aroma includes tart green apples, slight malt sweetness, some banana and some beautiful Belgian yeast. Taste follow suit with some peppery spice on the back of the tongue and a bit of earthy funk. Overall, highly drinkable and quite tasty.

Straight pour from a 22oz bottle to an oversized wineglass (HF stemware); no dating or freshness from what I could see, but this was purchased a bit over a month ago and from what I gather this beer is likely 6-9 months old, give or take. Maybe? Maybe. Not worried.

Appearance (4.5): Gushes like a motherfucker. Crazy eggshell foam fills the glass, showing amazing retention (it just will not die down, for crying out loud), covering a tangerine-orange body that is PERFECTLY hazy. As the head FINALLY recedes, it leaves wide, lazy splotches of lace all over the place. Crazy-ass head.

Smell (4.5): Juices like a motherfucker. Crazy pineapple sherbet and peppery funk, showing some moist earth and hay tones mixed in with everything for that rich, sweet earthiness and odd funk that people call “the barnyard.” Fresh basil, papaya, and candied oranges flesh out the sweet, fruity dimension: straight-up tropical-ass brett. Damn.

Taste (4.25): Funks like a motherfucker. Peppery funk with some medicinal phenols. Lemon flesh and rind show their faces, along with some old pineapple upside-down cake—you know when the fruit gets overripe and the cake is a little questionable, but you eat it anyway? Like that. There’s a good, peppery, funky twang on the finish . . . moderately bready: wheat bread toast attempts to fill out some of the body amidst all that funk.

Mouthfeel (3.75): An easy, dry feel, and almost tannic, with a drying funk. Modest carbonation characterizes the feel (guess there isn’t much left after all that gushing), with a lush foaming action and a modest tingle—pretty nice. It’s got a very good feel, but somewhat off-style.

Overall (4.25): A saison? Maybe. A brett beer? Most definitely. So, so bretty, and done ridiculously well: the aroma is FANTASTIC. I would definitely purchase this again—for the $10 pricetag, you’d be hard-pressed to find such a bretty beer done so tastefully. Overall, it’s relatively light on the saison characteristics (spice? hay? hops? just brett, huh? it’s entirely possible that they just got bulldozed by the tropical funk)—but as a brett story, this is great.

I had this on-tap at Max's. Poured into a sample glass.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden color with a layer of white head that fades to a ring around the edge of the glass.

Smell: Sweet from the malt and more fruit notes than herbal notes.

Taste: A mild sweetness with some citrus notes. A slight tartness blends with the herbal undertones. The finish is bitter.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with mild carbonation and a slick finish.

Overall: I felt like this beer didn't know if it wanted to be sour/tart, or herbal. That being said, it was pretty good, and I would have another if given the opportunity.

Pours a hazed golden orange, big plume of white froth, leaving patchy lacing. Scent is a mix of citrus and herbal notes, moderate sweetness coming through with a bite of spice. taste follows suit, herbal qualities blend with lemon and grapefruit, bready and lightly sweet malts in the background, moderate spicing throughout, lightly grassy and earthy. Moderately dry and a touch bubbly, medium bodied. Overall some unique flavor points, but never comes together fully.

A: Pours a cloudy light lemony yellow with a finger high foamy white head. The head dissipates quickly and does not exhibit much lacing on the glass.

S: Aromas of a natural root beer with hints of citrus and funk.

T: The flavors are peppery with a lemony medicinal taste. There are herbs and citrus notes with ginger and rosemary present. Also, there is a hint of the taste of root beer.

M: Medium bodied with low to moderate amounts of carbonation and a very slight hint of dryness.

O: Extremely surprised by the hints of root beer in both the aroma and the taste. I enjoyed the beer but I do not feel like it is very sessionable.

Pours a slightly hazed straw yellow with a nice white head and a good bit of lacing. The nose has some straw and light bread plus a touch of earthy funk. Some banana and pepper too. Flavor has more banana plus some bread and mild white pepper. Body is fairly dry. Moderate carbonation. A bit odd.

Poured from the tap a cloudy yellow orange color with two fingers of white head.

The aroma had notes of lemon and pineapple along with herbal spice and earthy, funky yeast.

The herbal spiciness was present in the taste as well with lemon, pineapple, yeast and earthy, funky medicinal notes.

Medium bodied and smooth with a moderate carbonation.

A very funky Saison from Evil Twin.

Evil Twin's Ryan and the Beaster Bunny beer with Brett yeast from Jolly Pumpkin.

Served in a stem glass, this beer poured a misty golden color with peach tints. A dense, white head receded to a patchy layer of bubbles that left some pleasant lacing behind. Spicy yeast aroma with tender hints of citrus and spice. Nice and smooth on the palate, lemon zest and grapefruit, Belgian yeast, and peppery spice, all in excellent balance with crisp herbal and floral hops; not too overbearing in any department. Medium-bodied, very tasty, and very drinkable.

Enjoyed on tap at Bier Station. Served in a large Belgian tulip glass with a flared rim.

Appearance - Pours a murky saffron yellow color with not much variation in color tone, even where light attempts to pass through. Atop the opaque body sits a one finger head that is white with just the slightest hint of parchment colored shading. Retention is moderate, and the foam leaves significant sheets of lacing as I drink it down, with a buildup of head around the edges of the glass.

Smell - A nice bit of citrus is present--some lemon and maybe grapefruit zest, but the real king here is a barnyard funk, as one would expect with a brett-infused farmhouse ale. Musty and pungent, with notes of wet hay along with fresher notes of newly-cut grass and alfalfa. Touches of floral sweetness and pollen as well.

Taste - Tangy and pungent funkiness is the predominant characteristic of the taste, with complementary elements of buttered biscuit, citrus zest, peppercorn and herbs, as well as a pleasantly hoppy bitterness cutting through the plethora of floral and light fruit flavors, including nectar, honeydew and pear.

Mouthfeel - Body is on the light side of medium, with a hint of chewiness. Moderate to high carbonation and a mostly dry finish with just a drop of sweetness.

Overall, I'm a sucker for brett saisons, but this one is quite tasty all the same. My exposure to Evil Twin isn't very high, but of the few I've had, most have been quite good--this one included. Perhaps I will have to seek more out from these Danish brewers.

Served in a tulip glass at the Beer Bistro in Chicago.

Served with a two finger pillowy clean white head and a hazy golden body. The unmistakable smell of Brett-induced funk, with floral and fruit notes on the nose. Opens with the taste of flora and citrus, transitions to earthy, brett funk in the midpalate,and finishes dry and just a bit tart with strong notes of pear. On the lighter side of medium bodied however still features a fairly creamy mouthfeel. A very enjoyable and well-balanced brew.
