12oz bottle poured into a snifter. This bottle is just over a year old at the time of consumption.

A: Blacker than the soul of Satan himself. Brown head retains forever at a one finger height. Rings of lacing.

S: Fudge sauce, charcoal, burnt toast. Currant and raspberry. Traces of minty hops. Alcohol far in the background. Maybe a little clenched, but good.

T: Brownie batter, double chocolate cake, fudge sauce. Bold roast and charcoal flavors soon begin to dominate. French roast coffee. Hollow hop bitterness, maybe a quick bite of citrus rind. Red berries. Black pepper. Alcohol gently nudges in toward the back end with a menthol impression. Soot, charcoal, roast, and bitter dark chocolate own the finish.

M: Huge, thick body. Weighty and sludgy. Chewy and viscous. Light prickling carbonation. Warming in the pit of the stomach.

O: A massive Imperial stout. Evil Twin's signature these days tends to be huge but agile imperial stouts that hide their alcohol well and sit far more lightly on the palate than one would ever expect. This one is a little more blunt, and they let the body really press down with some weight. The alcohol isn't shy either, though it isn't hot. The heavy roasted malt flavors and textures rule with the brutal authority of a tyrant. Hardened fans of the style should find a lot to love here.

Poured into a snifter.

A: 5 - Pours pitch black with a finger of tan/cinnamon head. An awesome looking beer.

S: 4.1 - Malt, kind of sugary, some milk chocolate, a little caramel. It's not as strong as I was expecting. No alcohol on the nose.

T: 4.25 - Strange - a good strange, however. A lot of beers can sometimes end up tasting not too different from others. This by all means is unique. The alcohol really isn't hidden too well, but that doesn't really bother me. There's also a tremendous amount of flavor here. At first it reminds me a little bit of a Belgium quad with a dark fruity flavor, like dates or something. There's also some hints of milk chocolate and cinnamon. And bacon. It's faint, but yes; bacon. It's smoky. Boozy. Weird.

M: 4.3 - Full body, sort of like soda. Again, strange.

O: 4.41 - It's different from any of the other imperial stouts I've had, that's for damn sure. It's a very interesting beer, and while it doesn't make my cry tears of joy like some others I've had, it's a highly enjoyable beer, and something I'll definitely pick up again. 'Twas a good purchase

Appearance: Pitch black with a two finger long lasting deep caramel head with excellent lacing.

Aroma: Medium+ intensity notes of milk chocolate, light hints of roast.

Flavor/Mouthfeel: Roast becomes the dominant flavor, and bitterness from said roast and a fairly present alcohol starts to border a bit on shoe-polishy. Mouthfeel is chewy and the sweetness does well to round off some of the harsher roast and alcohol flavors.

Overall: A fine brew, but I keep wanting to compare ETB's stouts to "I Love You With My Stout" and the others just aren't stacking up.
